N90: Sometimes defaulted to Nokia tune for incoming call?

Hey all,

I have customized a "Normal" profile to have ringtone to my own choosing. The ringtong is the one that came with the N90, called "Diazinon.aac".

However, sometimes when a call comes in, the N90 rings with the default Nokia Tune instead of "Diazinon.aac". Sometimes, it doesn't. I did some experiments by calling my N90 from 3 different phone numbers (Home, Cingular, T-Mobile) and this is what I found:

1. After a reboot (using FExplorer or TaskSpy), the 1st call that comes in will default to Nokia ringtone. Subsequent incoming call will use the "Diazinon.aac" ringtone.

2. After an off/on (without using any tools like #1), the Nokia ringtone came back after the 3rd incoming call.

I am not sure what is the cause of it, and I've tried the following:
1. Ensure that "Normal" profile is selected
2. Tried to assign the "Diazinon.aac" tone to a contact and tried to call from that contact number to the N90
3. Checked if "Diazinon.aac" is a complex rington, but it's a small size file.

This is almost like the N70 Ringtone issue (which have a patch I believe). Does anyone who have an N90 have this problem?

Thanks!

Yep. I have the same problem. I have not done the testing you've done but I occasionally get the Nokia tune instead of the ringtone that SHOULD play. The next call will usually be the right tone.

I guess we have to wait for our patch now

This is good news and bad news.. well, it's good to know that it's a widespread problem that Nokia will soon notice and came out with a firmware / patch. The bad news, we have to wait for the patch.. or even worse.. a firmware upgrade which means I have to send the phone...

Could it be a bad memory card or problems with AAC files only? Maybe it doesnt happen with MP3's etc etc. With my 6620 it would have issues with certain mp3's as ringtones and would as a "graceful degradation" method use the nokia tune as a ringer.

The rington "Diazinon.aac" came with my N90, so I assume it's a "good" ringtone.

Those (and anyone who will be posting) that does not / does have the issue, can you post your firmware version and let me know where you get the N90? I am trying to narrow down the cause of this issue.

Here's mine:
V 3.0543.4.1
25-10-05
RM-42
Purchased: T-Mobile

I don't have this problem with my phone. I tried calling with 2 different phone(home and VZW phone) and it just using 1 ringtone, which i set it to "diazinon".

firmware:
V 3.0543.4.1
25-10-05
RM-42

T-Mobile
purchased from ritz camera

Uh..oh.. then something is probably wrong with my phone? BTW, did you try reboot the phone like I did before and try calling the phone again?

BTW2, I found that the problem occurs ONLY on "Normal" profile.

Let me try some settings, like changing the "Video Call" ringtone to Diazinon tune. I'll keep you all posted.

Has anyone on Tmobile tried to do a video call? If someone wants to test PM me I will try it with you. I dont know if it requires UMTS type networks or not.

Wirelessly posted (NokiaN90-1/3.0543.4.1 Series60/2.8 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I did reboot the phone and it didn't default to nokia tune.

I HAVE got the patch for the N70 installed and while i had a game running today a call came in and was not my usual nokia nostalgic tune but the nokia la la la la laaaaaaaa tune instead.

Weird huh?

Hi, i'm new here, but I have the same annoying problem as well. The only soulution I found is to wipe out our call logs and that should solve the ringtone issue.

For some reason mine does this, but for people that I have assigned ringtones for, they get their assigned ringtone everytime, but then sometimes other calls come thru with the Nokia ringtone.

since I started using oggplayer and using the random_ringingtone.ogg file for all my contacts (with assigned ringtones)/msg tones/general ringtones/etc... I have not had this happen anymore.

My suggestion is to install oggplayer which can be downloaded free (open source) from http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/

and use .ogg ringtones. I personally use cool edit to make ringtones, but there are TONS of sound apps out there to cut, edit, etc audio files - and save or convert them to and from .ogg (.mp3, .acc, etc) all free... check google.com - download.com - shareware.com - freeware.com - sourceforge.net .... the list goes on and on.

YMMV, but since I've been using oggplayer - its been seamless to me and works great... not to mention to cool factor of having a random ringtone/sms tone play everytime

And BTW: I post .ogg ringtones too in the series60 ringtone section - check it out.
