N80 vs N95 - battery performance

I mean I have the N80 and the battery performance is just bad for this phone. You have to charge it every 3 days! I changed the settings to only use GSM mode, turned off the wifi and still no change.

Now here comes the N95 which is like the N80 but with way more features.

For those with N95... how is the battery performance of your phone? Maybe you need to charge every day? Maybe elaborate what apps youre running.

N80 is a featured packed phone and here you are complaining about charging it every 3 days and you still think that is poor?!?! You should be thankful if it even last a day or 2 because a lot of users with their n80 charged it almost every night or every 12 hours because sometimes it doesn't even last a day

Three days!!! Good lord!! You must not use it very much...

I fully charge my N80 once a day. No big deal.

Read through the threads here, there are many. N95 battery life is about the same as the N80.

I have both the N80 and N95, and I felt the same as you when I first got the N80. The battery definitely improved for me over time, and I also picked up a second battery and desktop charger. In practice, leaving the phone on 24x7 and only moderate use I typically got 2-3 solid days (sometimes more) and I think that's pretty good given the functionality.

I've only had my N95 for a bit over a week, and again the battery improves with age/conditioning but it hasn't yet reached the longevity of the N80 battery for me. That said, I'm still 'playing' with the N95 a lot and I'm constantly web surfing on it, so that explains a lot.

Again I've picked up a spare battery and the desktop charger is on the way. If I go to leave home and the battery is moderate to low I just grab the spare battery and carry it just in case.

Given the functionality of these phones I don't think you'll ever get up to a week or more out of them - maybe if you switch if off overnight and don't use it heavily during the day, but then you might as well buy a Moto or something!

Even with average or slightly below-average battery life, it's the best phone I've owned by far!

How are you able to get three days out of the N80? Most of us have to charge it every night. The same with my N95, even with moderate use I still have to charge it every night. Since I don't want to carry an extra battery I'm going to purchase a USB and car charger for the office and road.

No idea. I do always allow the battery to run nearly empty before charging. Other than that I don't do anything special. Having the second battery makes it much easier to let the battery properly discharge before charging.

umm yknow for li-ion batteries it is actually BAD for it to be discharged regularly and especially to be discharged to 0%

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm

Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.)

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery
Guidelines for prolonging Li-ion battery life
Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries should be charged early and often. However, if they are not used for a longer time, they should be brought to a charge level of around 40%. Lithium-ion batteries should never be "deep-cycled" like Ni-Cd batteries.[6]
Li-ion batteries should be kept cool. Ideally they are stored in a refrigerator. Aging will take its toll much faster at high temperatures. The high temperatures found in cars cause lithium-ion batteries to degrade rapidly.
Lithium-ion batteries should never be depleted to empty (0%).

an engineer friend of mine told me as well that as long as the li-ion battery is down to 80% of a full charge it is always ok to charge it right back up -- or even giuve it a little dose of charge because it isnt going to hurt it and will only help it
get a car charger and keep your battery charged up and besides like others in the thread i dont know how the heck you get 3 days of charge out of an n80!!! do you use it at all? loli can get MAYBE most of 2 days on a full charge w/o using my bt headset - with the bt turned on? forget the 2nd day -- i could start it but i wouldnt get very far!

That's useful info - thanks for the post. Nonetheless, my N80 battery still performs pretty well. No, I'm not a heavy user by any means - on average a few short calls a day, loads of texts, and a bit of web use. I also leave it on 24x7 and use it as an alarm clock. Can't really explain it... maybe others just use their phone a lot more than I do...

I just got my N95 on Friday; the battery only drained 1 bar after 18 hours yesterday. It was maybe 15 mins of voice calls, ~20 text messages, 10 minutes of wifi use, an hour of bluetooth (transferring files to/from PC) and probably a total of 4 hours playing with it (i.e. screen backlight on) all day.

I have the phone set to GSM only and the wifi power turned down to 10 mW. I didn't use the camera or the media players.

i always charge when i want to, i dont believe this charge only when your battery runs out ****. Since i use my phone quite a bit, it will suck if i use that method cuz the phone will only have half a battery for a whole day and that just wont cut it for me.
