N80: No Connection Emergency Call only

Help a newbie please! I just got my N80 and popped in my Cingular 3G sim and off I didn't go. All I get is a message that says "Emergency calls only" and I see no connection symbol. I took the sim out of another phone in which it worked perfectly. Cingular of course will provide no help because they do not sell or support the model. I turn to you, the court of best resort for help.
 
I had a similar problem when I just got my 6131 -- for about 20 or so minutes it wouldn't register on the network. You could try performing a manual network search. Also, if possible, turn off 3G support as unless you have a prototype N80 it's incompatible with Cingular network anyway.
