N8 vs E7

See now, that's just wrong. I usually listen to internet radio on my e75 when I dont have my ipod or when i'm in the mood to hear spanish rock radio stations from latin america.

Just today I was listening to a station from argentina over internet radio because i left my ipod connected in my car...so... the n8/e7 just do not support the internet radio application? Meaning, you can't just add it if it doesn't come pre installed in the phone?

GSM Arena now says the E7 has fixed focus. Thoroughly moronic decision by Nokia. This is obviously a high-end phone and crippling the camera this way is really foolish. Autofocus has been a standard feature on high-end Nokia phones for more than 3 years. I think Nokia's prospects this year are really bleak. They have failed to produce a top-class OS and now this dumb choice spoils what looks like an otherwise impressive piece of hardware.

Just curious, have there been any pics posted yet taken from the E7? I'm interested in seeing what they look like because if i'm not mistaken the N8 has a fixed focus for the video camera and those vids look nice....

With a resistive screen, I can use a fingernail and be nearly as accurate as with a stylus. Using the N900 and 5800, I find a need for the stylus once every few months. Capacitive and I just don't really get along that well. I'd take a capacitive screen over a crappy resistive screen, but I'd much rather have a good resistive screen. I know I'm outnumbered by the capacitive fans, so will probably just have to accept it, but it'd be nice to have the occasional decent phone with a resistive screen.

IMO IR should be on at least the major phones such as N8, E7, and the upcoming N9.

Nokia needs to avoid the "Flagship" mistakes of the N97 which should also include actually "supporting" the phone through updates.

After V2.0, the N97 has basically been left for dead. Flagship devices, IMO deserve more... :mod:

And I made fun of the iPhone for it. ;)

640x360 is decent enough, though. The BB Torch is fine with its "paltry" 480x360 3.2" screen. 180 dpi seems to be enough, although I'd be lying if I said I can't tell a difference between the Torch and my N900, which is about 266 dpi. That capacitive screen about drives me batty, though. I don't know what the hell I'm going to do when it's difficult/impossible to get a device with a resistive touchscreen any more.

Question for the technical people: Since Symbian is open source, can we port E7's enterprise software to N8 and get the best of both worlds?

IMO, Nokia should install the same software in all their high end devices, just like how Windows has Windows 7 Ultimate that includes everything from business to entertainment. It would be great if it allows the user to change mode of the phone, like in HTC sense where you can easily customize what apps and themes show up in work mode and what shows up in weekend mode or something.

I'm one that also would like a resistive screen... the capacitive thing is only really fed by the iphone at the beginning and cause they did a good job selling it, lots of people think it's important.

What, are you a girl? Do you have nails like Flo Jo or something? I'm not trying to be rude, or joking. Why is it important to use a fingernail to be accurate? I'll tell you why its because over a decade of resistive-touch screens the technology has NOT advanced or offered serious benefit.

There is NO situation, no excuse - OTHER than fine line signatures or using a sophisticated painting application where Resistive with a stylus offers better experience over capacitive technology. To even the playing field a simple Pogo stylus for capacitive screens does the job VERY well. Apple didn't NEED to sell it well - in actuality if you watch the 2007 iPhone debut from WWDC; Apple & company never stated capacitive screen. They showed and proven just how much more powerful an useful it could be for 80-90% of use by he average user. If it wasn't good enough then it would NOT have sold so well; Apple fans are loyal like brainless rabitts but their just a cruel when screwed over by Apple.

A resistive & capacitive touchscreen technology may be what you're after: Stylus when needed, finger any other time.

Come off it Donny, some people want resistive, some people want capacitive. Why does it matter to you what our wants are?

I suppose next you'll say there is NO situation where a physical keyboard is needed? NO situation where a notification light is needed when you can just turn on the screen?

Stop it with your incessant absoluting when all we're EVER discussing is personal preference. Resistive v. capacitive is a personal preference.

I prefer a resistive screen. *I* prefer a resistive screen. I don't care what you use, I don't care what you prefer - but I'm not trying to spout off why my technology is better for everybody. You are, and it's ****ing annoying.
