N8 a MicroSD Killer?

I bought a 16GB Patriot MicroSD card to go along with my N8 and it failed within a week. The retailer replaced it for me and now the second one has failed within two further weeks. I'll be sending it straight back to Patriot this time.

I'd call failure of a brand new flash card very unusual so to have it happen twice... I'm wondering whether it's actually the N8. Anyone had anything similar? I've heard stories about large MicroSD cards being "not quite there" in terms of quality and I've also heard about counterfeit product making it into legitimate delivery channels so I don't know what to think.

I've been using Windows Media Player to sync music to the memory card in the N8 and the card has been used for nothing other than music.

Anyone?

No problems with mine, an 8gb Kingston that I used in my E71. I'll be upgrading to a 16 or 32 soon, so it'd be interesting if any others have had a similar problem as you. What class is your Patriot?

if u pull out your N8, try it on the save way (safley remove hardware on the right of your computer), i also had 5 sd crashed because of it.

It was a Class 4.

It died while being read both times. The second time, I was listening to music and suddenly the music stopped. The phone became unresponsive and froze. I restarted and it wouldn't get past the white screen. I had seen this before when it had failed before so I knew what to do. Pulled out the card, restarted and the phone works fine. The first time it failed while searching my content on the memory card. If I put the card back in, the phone freezes instantly.

The card isn't read or recognized at all by Windows. It's stone-cold dead.

I've been using a Kingston 32GB Class 4 in my N8 for three weeks now. Music, audio and video podcasts (great watching HDTV from the N8 on a 42" flatscreen!), and some programs.

Fingers crossed but not a hitch so far.

Sorry to threadjack, but what are your read and write speeds with that card?

I guess a good test would be to use a different card in your phone for a while and see if the same thing happens to that card, in which case it'd confirm that your phone is eating microSD cards for breakfast. I'd be incredibly concerned if 2 sd cards died that quickly haha

Damian Dinning recommends a minimum of Class 4 for HD video.

I just picked up a 16GB Kodak card at BestBuy for $40 so I'll see how that works out - if you hear from me in a couple weeks, then I'll be contacting Nokia and keeping you all up to date about it. It's made by Lexar (Says so right on the package.) and it's made in Korea (Samsung?) so hopefully the quality is higher than the junk that the Chinese have been producing. One thing that bodes very well for the card is that it's a Class 4 but I was getting almost 8MB/s writes - nice!
