N73 w/ Cingular in NYC...

Hey y'all!

At the moment, I'm really happy with my Helio Hero, but as I have a new job that requires me to be more connected on the go, I think I'm going to have to jump to Cingular. Although I have had bad experiences with GSM service in NYC, I haven't really used GSM since Cingular started switching on the 850 band here - friends says it is alright now (you can actually get reception in buildings! Ha ha...)

My other choices are Sprint and Verizon, which do have great coverage in NYC - but I really don't want a Palm or WinMo devices. It's Symbian all the way for me, man.

So I'm looking at the N73, which seems to be a great device... or an E61 or E62.

My question is, can anyone that has used an N73 in New York City with Cingular let me know their experience? My main concern is the speed of EDGE while using IMAP e-mail, speed of uploading photos, and of course reception and call quality in Manhattan. My secondary uses would be web browsing - most likely, wap sites mostly, for my news fix. =)

Thanks in advance!

I'm loving mine. Awesome reception and EDGE speeds are pretty good. No phone is perfect, but this one comes as close to it, for me, as it can get. The only thing that it's missing, IMO, is UMTS1900.

I thought about getting the N80 before I got this and I'm glad I didn't.

I'm a New Yorker that uses N73 on Cingular..

Signal is great!! Haven't had any drop calls.. I get full bar everywhere except elavators..

But its still good do..

I don't use the internet on my mobile.. So I can't tell you that experience..

you have an N80 and N73, among others, but you don't user internet on your phone? Freakin weird. You think you love s60 now, just wait till you use it with unlimited internet. Holy smokes.

Sorry, incredibly off-topic.

On the N80.. I prefer the WLAN.. I just don't want to pay extra I guess..

But willing to pay for an expensive phone. Hehehehehe!!

When Nokia US 3G phones comes out!! That's probably the time I will subscribe to the Unlimited internet access.

I've been in numerous buildings in NYC with my N73 and had nothing but stellar reception. Of the newer crop of S60's the N73 outperformed the E61, and N80ie easily. Shouldnt have a problem anywhere that the other providers are able to get signal from.

Sometimes you gotta use your head and not your wallet.

Were not that rich like Rcadden is..

As you know.. NYC is full of WLAN hotspots.. Why should I pay for internet If I can browse for free on a broadband speed.

Lol. Rich my foot. Just smart enough to get in on Cingy's MEdiaWorks package back in the day, that's all. I'd pay for it anyways, though. I blew through 450MB last month without tethering. I obviously get my money's worth out of my data connection.

Plus I don't have any hotspots around other than my house, so WiFi for me was pointless.

There so many of em!!

Like Bryant Park has free WLAN access, The Public libraries have free WLAN access, So many office buildings have em too..

My office has one.. These WLAN I'm talking about are all Unlocked!! Free to use!

Hey guys, thanks so much for the feedback. Now I just need to figure out Cingular's friggin plans... Smartphone Connect? Message packs? What the hell, where's the unlimited text+internet package?! =( Heh.

Here's how I look at it:

I pay $20 for data (plus some other goodies)

450 MB is 460,800 kb (1024kb/mb) * .01/kb = $4,608.

I'd say I cleaned up.

I've got the Media Max 200 bundle. Unlimited internet and 200 MMS/Text messages a month. That's $19.99 per month.

There's the Media Max 1000 for $29.99, but nothing with unlimited text messages.

Cool cool - is the "Smartphone Connect" feature really any different than this? It seems to overlap with the internet aspect of it - the big difference being that it doesn't come with any text message (XpressMail instead).

Thanks again guys!
