N73 screen backlight not working

Got an odd problem. The backlight of my N73 screen doesn’t turn on. The keypad lights up fine depending on lighting conditions (thus I know it’s not the light sensor) and the screen works and shows all the info but the backlight isn’t working for some reason.

I checked all the connections in the phone and they all look ok. This issue occurred after I opened the phone to fix the camera button which was not connecting properly.

Any ideas if this would be a screen hardware issue or maybe something else?

I’ve reset fully the phone. Formatted it and changed the firmware just in case and still the same result

if you formatted it and everything then i guess youve got a faulty screen/backlight...

why dont u try for the heck of it and go to Settings and see if the backlight slider all the way down???

otherwise return it or get it fixed, i hope you have warranty or sumthin.

It sounds like you pinched or broke a connector when you were trying to fix your camera. Crack it open again and see if you can find anything?

oh, i didnt notice the "it happend after i opened the phone"

bro, you DONT open a smartphone to fix anything, because hardware wise i dont think theres anything possible to fix, unless your a pro, which im sure your not.

Ive already played with the settings and no change. The connectors look fine and I triple checked. The screen works just not the backlight

btw im curious to know how old u r? lol looks like u damaged the screen, anyway thats a lesson for you NOT to open a Nokia phone unless you are trained and qualified.

now send it over to a Nokia service center.

Im 26. There is no repair center that will touch this phone in Canada so repairs or mods like changing the housings have to be done ourselves.

Here is step by step info in case you need it

Ive done this many times before and the nature of the problem is pretty odd. I figure a bad connector would cause a genera failure of the screen not just the backlight.

Anyways I ordered a screen and I hope to god it works or else ill have a new screen for nothing

N80forsure: if anything can be taken apart people will take it a part.it seems to me that your not confadent with your skills in taking stuff apart and put them together correctly. it doesnt mater how old you are cuse at 16 i have torn apart my 95 325i motor(an extra), just to see how it works, and it still works today.

fidorulz: i hope the new screen works!!

Thanks I hope it works too cause I love this phone and if I cant fix this I cant even use it as a phone since most of the stuff is not readable.

not exactly.

ive torn apart many laptops, wether its Dell, Toshiba, Asus and put them back together and ofcourse like they never been touched, i even modded one of my Dells which is a 600m to put in internal BT (required soldering) and i gave it a paintjob, take a look at the pics

BUT....

i didnt dare touch it untill it was 1 years old, first because i would void warranty and second it is still new i wouldnt wanna feel bad if something happens to it and its value would go down the gutter. but after my 600m was old technology and wasnt worth as much as it was new, i was didnt hesitant for once to tear it apart and mod it.

my point is, if your phone is precious and new and probably has warranty (not sure about his) then why bother and open it??? especially if its a smartphone, i have opened alot of low-end Nokia's before because their really simple hardware wise....

anyhow i wonder what was wrong with the camera that u wanted to fix it??

i actually had this problem once...i was using the phone - launched the menu and all the sudden the back light went off. i still can use the phone and everything else was fine...it was just the back light like you described. however lucky me, rebooting it fixed the problem. might be a bug? it happen actually 4 days ago.

good luck on fixing it.....maybe a new screen would help?

btw...what firmware do you have?...maybe try reflashing it?

Camera button wasnt making contact with the inside button thus I couldnt take pictures. As for warrenty in Canada Nokia wont touch this phone and im not sending it overseas for repairs
