N73 Playlist management

I just migrated to my first nokia and compared to Sony ericssons the music player seems a bit lacking but everything else is truly amazing... i was wondering how does everyone manage their music... some problems I have are...

1. i use windows media player to sync the music I want but then i can't create individual playlists

2. when I go play all music, mp3 ringtones I have in the phone is also included... is there a folder I can put it in so it is not included

3. when creating playlists on the phone and don't want to include the ringtones I have to select every track individually.... gets tedious....

hopefully somebody can shed some light...

There's been a couple threads on this, but it's definitely one of the major headaches of the S60 music player ... but default, it includes all media, including ring tones. The workaround that I've done for mine is to create a playlist on the computer that contains everything I want, minus the ringtones. You can do this in just about any modern music player, as most support .m3u playlists, which the phone can read (so when you save your playlist, just choose .m3u as the file extension). Save that playlist in the same directory as your music, then copy them all over to your card. In the future, on the phone, you can simply add new songs to the playlist as you add them to your phone.

Pain in the ***, and you are right, SE has a vastly superior music system to Nokia (and I'm a Nokia nut saying that!)

If you have Y-Browser on your phone (and if not, you should) you can set the ringtones as hidden. This prevents them from showing up in your lists.

Also, do you have a regular N73 or the Music Edition? The media player app on the Music Edition is VASTLY superior to the regular one.

thanks for the insight olly... definatelly a time saver

rcadden... i have the music edition.. as i haven't used the regular version before.. and by what u're saying i hope i don't because i'd probably hate the music player lol

I'm racking my brains over whether to get a top end Nokia or top end SE. I know I'll regret either way.

Anyway here's a tip for the Nokia playlist management side of thing - there's an app called The Filter that can create playlists automatically and greatly improves the navigation on the phone. It's free and you can grab it from http://www.thefilter.com/mobile.aspx
