n73 drops calls, loses network

If you don't get a new SIM anytime soon, try setting operator selection to manual.
Tools > Settings > Network > Operator selection

And what firmware version is on your N73? Mine now has firmware from October (3.0638.0.0.1). You may want to update your firmware.

I can change operator selection to manual but when it goes into the "I can't find any network mode" it will just search for a while and then tell me there's no network to be had.

My phone has the latest firmware, v3.0649.0.0.1 from 11/30/06. I actually updated the firmware when this started happening in case that would fix it but it didn't change anything. I also changed the product code to EURO-1 so I could silence the shutter noise.

;8582177']ive noticed on my n73 me that when i make calls, the reception bar would drop by about 2-3 bars from full... after i end the call, bars would go back up to full reception

its weird, but call quality and everything else is still crystal clear...

..i know the n73 has it, but tmo doesnt support it.

Pretty sure that it was the problem if a cingular sim works fine...well unless u try it with another tmo sim like what u are going to do Let us know

Boy tmob is stubborn about jumping to the 850..almost as stubborn as you

...actually i remember olly mentioning that in parts of WA tmo doesnt have any 850 roaming agreements...i guess hes in one of the parts

well i do have 850 for my provider and i dont mind using it, its just that i wont make 850 a deal breaker when i get a new phone..big difference

Is there a way to check and see what network I'm on, either via the phone's native software or an application I can install on there? Obviously I get the little "T-Mobile" text at the top of the phone but something more detailed would be great to have for when I talk to T-Mobile again.

According to T-Mobile's maps I am in the middle of a full-signal area on their 1900 network, not roaming on Cingular's 850.

Too bad the firmware update didn't help.

It seems strange that there's no network found when searching manually. My phones, including a N73 often find 3 different networks when I'm close to the CAN-USA border. Something fishy is going on. Hopefully a new tmo SIM will sort this out.

The situation with not having GSM 850 on Rogers in Canada is quite different from not having GSM 850 on Cingular in the U.S.

In the U.S. if you don't have GSM 850, there are a lot of places you simply won't get coverage with Cingular because Cingular doesn't have GSM 1900 licences in that particular area. It really depends on where you are. For instance, here in Seattle, you could get away with a 1900-only phone on Cingular with only somewhat of a coverage disadvantage.

Rogers, on the other hand, has a PCS/1900 spectrum allocation in pretty much all of Canada. PCS licences were clearly allocated differently than in the U.S.

Im going to have to say its T-mo, not the phone. I stupidly switched from Cingular(Full reception in my apartment) to T-mobile(no reception in my apartment) a few months ago. I installed a wireless extender and now get 2-3 bars in my apartment on T-mo. However, Im using a Blackberry Pearl(still waiting for my N73 to get here). I too get the dropped service for abotu 5-10 seconds on my phone. Its a T-mo branded phone taken directly from my inventory(Im a T-mo dealer, reason for switch) and have complained several times to T-Mo themselves. This doesnt just happen in my apartment but in my store. Thing is, my store is reputable for getting 3-4 solid bars of service so there should be no reason for any loss on the phones. Nope, I have my Pearl on the desk and watch it just all of a sudden lose service and search for network. Damn annoying I tell ya. I was sent replacement phones but I had so much downloaded into my phone that I didnt want to take the time to transfer it all so I sent them back. If I get the same problem on the N73 Im switching back to Cingular.

I have the same problem on my N73, although i am on the Orange UK network, all that i do is hold the hang up key for a few seconds and the phone goes back to normal
