N73 Camera light always on even with flash off?

Hey guys. I searched for this before - couldnt a specific answer..

I just got the N73 and even when I choose flash off, it still blinks the light once while focusing and then doesnt flash when clicking.

Is there a way to turn the flash off at all times? also every time I re-open the camera application, it resets the flash to Automatic, which is annoying.. Isnt it supposed to remember the last chosen option?

Anyway im running the latest firmware. Any help.. appreciated..
 
Thanks Rcadden. That's the closest solution I've found. Ahh I think I'll just go get the N91 or the K790i.. Any takers for a 1 day old N73?? $450
 
I just want to know what everyone is taking pictures of that they have to be so covert and need the shutter sound silenced and no flash whatsoever and need that so badly that they're willing to sell a phone they've only had a day!

Neither bother me and haven't kept me from taking a single photograph.

Is it just understood what photos are being taken and I'm not aware of it?
 
The pre-flash actually bothers me when I am taking pictures of people. The reason being they tend to think the picture was taken and the start moving around, consequently I end up with a lot of blurry pictures

2nd edition is not binary compatible with 3rd addition. There is 0% chance that any 2nd edition apps would run oin 3rd edition. It's like trying to run an OS X binary on windows

I dont think it has to do anything with binary compatibility like OS X and Windows. My understanding was that all 3rd edition apps had to be 'signed' by Nokia. It is supposed to increase security in the new phones.
 
No, the 9.1 symbian kernel has been changed significantly such that it cannot run symbian 8 code at the binary level. I just installed the toolchain (carbide.c++ and the s60v3 SDK) and even though I never programmed for s60v2, I can tell you that the "What's New" basically states that s60v3 has a completely reworked API, so even without the binary imcompatabilities, the apps would have to be ported to the knew api.

From the wikipedia article on symbian "The new ARM EABI binary model means developers need to retool and the security changes mean they may have to recode."

That hit the nail. Exactly why I find it weird. Its not about that one thing I wanna change the phone. Its just the whole photo taking experience. Although there are some good options, the SE's just blow these phones off in the whole photo taking bit.

Oh, and nothing's wrong with a little bit of right spirited "quiet" photography. we all know we have it in us
