MyTouch 3G Update

So I keep on hearing about all these updates to 2.1 that are comming to all the android phones still running 1.6. But out of all of this chatter I never hear about the MyTouch 3G and its rollout. Does anyone know when T-Mobile is going to release 2.1 for the MyTouch?
 
It doesn't seem likely that myTouch 3g / or HTC Dream (aka t-mobile G1) will get android 2.1.

Google was very frank when launching the nexus one on January 5 that certain "low end" phones will not support android 2.1 because of it's 3d interface.

While no phones were stated by name, we can infer that mytouch 3g and the G1 are at least two of the low end phones that they were talking about.

I would do one of the following:
-root your phone to extend the features available
-buy a new phone (I finally caved and bought a nexus one unlocked a few days ago and I'm completely amazed by it...No 3g issues or any other issues that I've noted).
It's a big step up, if you have the money I'd go for it or wait for N2 which is supposedly coming in June.
 
I thought that they werent able to update the g1, but the mytouch wasnt going to support live wallpapers? The Hero is getting the update, doesnt the Hero have the same specs as the mytouch, aside from the sense ui?
 
T mobile just told me that they couldn't say the mytouch is getting it for sure but the cliq is! I think this is boo boo and will be switching carriers asap. I am SICK of T mobile
 
Just root your phone, we are already running 2.1 on our G1's and MT3G's. Right now it's a test rom but should be called stable in about a week.

I've had my phone rooted since day one. Like you said though, the rom's are unstable right now. I figure, if we can get the official release for the MT3G then we can get something stable to boot, that's all.
 
I said it should be called stable shortly, as far as I'm concerned it's pretty stable now. Granted it's not as fast as my N1 but it's a great start.
 
I want to root really bad but I'm not sure I can do it and if I need to send my phone in for service or whatever then what? Am I able to go back to stock?
