I am using a Wetern Digital hard drive that is 500gb. A year ago it started to die which to me appeared as periodic episodes where it would seem to dismount and I had to restart my PC to get it back. The problem got worse over time until I sent the drive back for a free replacement.
A year later (now), the exact same drive is starting to do the exact same thing. There are two things I think it can be; either it is a bad model of a hard drive or I have motherboard and/or power supply issues.
The only reason I think it is not my computer is that I have a second Western Digital hard drive of a different model that hasn't failed once in the 2 years I been using it and it has my OS on it.
The other reason is maybe it is the power supply cable, maybe trying a different rail might work? But I do think even if it is that that it killed the drive because the problem does get worse over time.
Any advice? They are both SATA drives btw.
Thanks!
