MyNetworkTV - Their Turn?

Since FOX has decided to officially air no more cartoons (for the time being anyway) this is the first time EVER in network TV history where there's only one channel airing a Saturday morning cartoon line-up that's not E/I packed. This gives CW some sort of a monopoly. So...do you think MyNetworkTV should get off their lazy bums and create their own line-up, whether it be original or acquisitions?

I don't know if ANY off cable network will ever- ever- EVER do an original cartoon/children's lineup that wasn't made up of aquisitions/cable repeats ever again.

I just wonder how much longer 4 Kids on CW will last now, or if it's days are numbered.

No. Affiliates love having every chance possible to raise cash with infomercials or local news.

Kids shows that don't help he E/I cause are the last thing stations want to show.

Saturday morning cartoon lineups on the big networks were a bigger deal back when they were the only game in town. Nowadays, we have entire channels devoted to (or mostly devoted to) animation, as well as cartoon DVDs and On Demand; so kids can watch cartoons any time of the day or night, so having a single 3 or 4 hour block of animated programs airing on a single day of the week doesn't make a whole lot of sense anymore. The networks were regularly getting trounced by cable, satellite, home video/DVD, On Demand and the like, so there's not a whole lot of incentive for networks to pay for such programming.

Theoretically, the CW4Kids should see an increase in ratings, now that there's only one 4Kids block...or at least that's what 4Kids is hoping for. In any case, 4Kids has a contract with the CW through 2013, so the block should be around for some time still.

As for MyNetworkTV...yeah, I don't see it happening. Like Burgundy Ranger said, affiliates hate airing kids shows because they don't get any profit from it.

Well, considering how in history, most monopolies have lasted a while, before someone: A) Does twice as good as they do, or B) Pitfall, and the monopoly becomes aware of the competition and continues to succeed. But considering most people don't exactly like CW11's line up, I don't think they'll succeed. Kids' probably will find a new alternative.

There are still a good number of households (15.3 million) that don't get any sort of cable programming and rely only on broadcast stations.

Cable television.

I'm pretty sure a good percent of them choose to do so, because of the whole 'Television is bad for kids' thing, and those kids'll probably go outside or go online, or something else.

Not likely. Some of us don't get MyNetworkTV on broadcast television. Since Fox has decided to pull the plug on its Saturday morning block and the CW could be gone, next year, I think it's time for NBC to consider adding another hour to its Saturday morning block(even if it means cutting its Saturday Today show to one hour long). I'm not sure if anyone realizes this, but the original Big Three(CBS, ABC & NBC) could be controlling Saturday morning programming, once again, possibly by September 2010. Stay tuned.

I think's that really doubtful. ABC is doing fine because of the live-action Disney tweencoms, but I doubt we'll see a resurrection with just E/I shows.

I also don't understand why people think that the CW network is going to simply vanish. The prime time ratings are increasing...that can only be a good sign.

Um...NBC's Discovery Kids block has been gone for some time now. Now they have qubo.

MyNetworkTV is not a large enough network to warrant a Saturday morning cartoon block. Also, why would they waste money on a dying trend when they don't have a lot to begin with?

Keep this in mind folks. Rupert Murdoch owns MyNetworkTV and FOX, so chances are if he doesn't want Saturday morning cartoons on one network, he's not going to add them to the other.
