I am having a myelogram on friday. After reading the posts about the headaches, I am getting a bit more nervous about this procedure overall.

I have had several steroid injection epidurals for my back, but they have always put me to sleep for those. I had an epidural during the birth of both of my children. Is that any kind of comparison to the discomfort/pain of the myelogram epidural. I really didn't feel a thing during the epidurals during my labor besides the initial nurabing injection.

Thanks!

In addition to staying in bed after the myelogram, I've also heard that it is really helpful to drink lots of fluiRAB, particularly caffeinated ones, as this helps clear the dye out of your body.

Just remind yourself that the procedure will help to nail down where the pain is coming from...and you'll be that much closer to a resolution!!

How are you doing, 10Sox?? Tomorrow is the big day. I'm sure you'll come through the procedure without any problems and will be glad to have the information when it is all over. I wish I'd had a myelogram before I had my fusion -- but my doc was sure where the problem was. Two other specialists I saw wanted to fuse 3 to 5 levels which I thought was perfectly ridiculous. But as it turns out, I probably should have had L5-S1 done in addition to the L4-5. But my surgeon was confident he knew where the pain was coming from....

I had a SI nerve block/injection yesterday. They used a different sedation than what I had for my last ESI and I was more awake...but, it was OK. I could do it again if I had to!! And you'll get through your myelogram, too. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

Good luck!!

Thank you so much for thinking of me. You are too sweet. I am honestly not focusing on it too much, which is so unlike me. I've done my research and know some of what to expect. I think I've had so many procedures done on the during the last few years that I have finally learned not to worry so much. What is going to happen will happen, and it really is out of my control. i will let you know how it all goes.

How are you feeling from your injection? Are you getting any relief? I hope you are taking it easy too!

Thanks again,

10,
Remeraber to stay no more than 20- 30 degrees (which is one or two pillows, depending on the thickness of them)elevated once you get home, and to stay resting, especially those first 18 hours or so post myelogram. Drink lots of caffeinated coffee or tea or soda, and you can avoid that spinal headache. Not everyone gets them .:)
I was scared to death after my two myelograms that I would get a spinal headache, but I followed the directions from the radiologist and the nursing staff, and drank lots of coffee over the next 24 hours and I never got a headache at all, let a spinal one.
Good luck today, I hope that you and your doctors get the answers you are looking for.

good luck I am having one soon and I just had a discectomy on one of my prob discs but it did not work!!! I should have had one first. I must have bad ins because I have also had many epidural and steroid injects and I was wide awake without anything but some novicane (which does not work when you hit nerves and bone spurs LOL sometimes all you can do is laugh) so thanks for letting me know you could be sedated I dread going and it takes quite a bit of xanax to get me there.
