My Xbox360 "arcade" wont recognise a 20gb HDD i recently got, can i use one...

...with the "arcade console" ? I recently got a 20gb HDD for my Xbox 360 "arcade" to play ad-ons for certain games, When i go to play them the console tells me to insert a HDD, I've tried it with and without the 256mb card i already have, Is there something i need to do before i can use it? ..Any advice is welcome, Thank you.
 
is it pushed in properly (until it clicks) urm is it from a shop if so take it back last resort call xbox support 0800-my-xbox i think ti is

It should just work if you plug the hard drive in try replacing the hard drive if that doesn't work call up microsoft and get your xbox replaced.
