My Xbox 360 wireless adapter isnt working?

ok so i bought a wireless router for my 360 because my ethernet cable wont reach my router. when i test my connection, it passes the first two tests but when it comes to the final step, connecting to xboxlive, the bar only fills up 1/3 and then says theres some error. ive completed everything it asked me to do to prevent that error again but it still wont connect to xbox live!?
