My work rant.

So, there's a dumb mother fucker at work who thinks just because he can read "Windows for Dummies", he is a computer genius. That's fine, I have no problem with him fucking with Windows. I do however have a slight problem with him fucking with our Process Control Software, that allows me to run the fucking Water Plant I work in. I want shit to work on the beginning of my shift. I don't want to come to work and have to fix someone's fuckup.

We pay a tech $150/hr. to work on the stuff this idiot thinks he has figured out in 2 months. What's worse, is my boss thinks the idiot is God or something... I'm still trying to figure who has who's head shoved up their ass. Dumb motherfuckers.

Well, the source of this rant has to do with the fact that while being "God" with computers, this guy somehow managed to fuck up a restart, TWICE!

HOW DO YOU FUCKUP A RESTART?

The idiot even admitted that the computer runs worse now than before he rebooted. So, I have no dealings with this computer as such. I use it to operate the plant, but it stays on-line 24/7, only being rebooted on the haphazard chance that another process or control is added. It's not working correctly, I proceed to call my boss. My boss tells me to call the idiot. They both arrive, see the computer isn't working, and then ask ME what to do... WTF? I don't know anything about the fucking computer, which is why I called someone, but I should know how to fucking fix it.... Assholes. It turns out that the second reboot went, and I quote "kinda funky", and is now the cause of my troubles. I say a hard reboot is in order... but I don't get listened to until the idiot confirms what I've already said.

So we begin to reboot. We turn off the Radio that sends the telemetry signals to our tanks, booster stations, and wholesale customer pits, to keep everything in state as we reboot. Computer powers down, but doesn't come back on. Keep in mind that Mr. Idiot is a retard hillbilly that can't even comprehend that CTRL+ALT+DEL, pulls up the Process manager in Windows 2000, but he "KNOWS" computers. Fuckwad. So he's banging on the power button trying to get it to work, when I pull out the backup Computer and say fuck it, if I refuse to work with a computer that hasn't been working properly. So we have to switch towers, this fucknit pulls the tower out of the cabinet, and while I'm unpluggin wires, he asks me if I need a piece of paper and a pen so I can label all of the wires to go back to where they need to be. THE ONLY WIRE NOT ON A NORMAL DESKTOP IS THE COM1 CABLE, and you can't exactly connect it wrong... Not to mention everything else is color coded. Chodesmoker.

So the backup computer boots up, and we get the plant back onto computer control.

I then feel that this is a good time to hook up the Origional tower to a monitor and Keyboard, just to make sure it isn't working.

I press the power button, and it boots... exactly the way it should... Then, while I'm navigating Windows without a mouse, Mr. Genius tells me that he would be lost without a mouse.

So, here's to the Intellictual Giant that I work with.:mfinger:

wow, that guy is horrible. Try to get him fired by making it look like he slept with the boss's wife because he's such a god or something...

As does mine... But I know enough about computers to know that when someone legitimately gets paid $150/hr. they may know a little more than me... Unlike the 45 year old Bill Gates Prodigy that I work with now.

what a dumbass, unbelievable, how does he get paid? where did he come from? He sounds pretty ridiculous, u should punch him in the stomach. You cant even misplace nething on the inside of a comp. Hed prolly be like "WTF? This stick is too long" as he cuts off half a stick of ram and shoves it into the agp port, i can totally imagine that :thumbsdn: :thumbsdn:

BWM: If the SW uses Com1 for control then it's outdated. There is no reason that the SW can't control at the network layer, or even as high as the application layer. Physical layer should only be used for logging, and that should be used as a back up.
For $150 bucks an hour I will come fixy.

my father works in a chemical plant... and well if someone was playing with the software like that, he could only really screw up once... sure 7 miles of city would be flattened but ultimately he could only do it once... rewarding incompetence.. another reason were all doomed...

I have absolutely no idea what all that jubbily joo joo meant Broken. I just know that it's a com1 cable that connects the computer to the main process controller/RTU thingummy. We use Zetron RTU's interfaced with our "Lookout" program. I think it's a custom jobby or something quite site specific... There are probably quite a shit ton of more reliable and efficient ways to do what we are doing, but trying to convince a bunch of computer illiterates that spending money would save money, would be a daunting task that I neither care, nor have the patience to deal with.

As long as I have an idiot proof GUI to use, I could really care less.

Sorry for the double post but...

REPPED!

EDIT:

Just for clarification, the normal repair/setup man who SHOULD be the only one changing shit on the Zetron system gets paid $150/hr. or some other really insane amount of money. He basically built our entire Radio Telemetry system, and is contracted to maintain it too... Mr. Computer Pants seems to think that he could save the company money, by "learning" it himself. But, around here, if you can open up IE without using a manual you know more about computers than half of the employees.

"What are those things again?"

Dude, that would be like Chenobyl II!

...and if he reads your post and puts 2+2 together, he too will know how frustrating it is to work w/ him; well articulated BWM! push him into the fish poopy one night?! LOL:D

He works days at the other plant... I don't ever see him. Except this one night, but the boss would have problably cried if pushed Carmack Jr. into the sludge ponds.

Update: The dumb fucker called up to the plant on Sunday... one of his days off mind you, to tell me that "If I felt comfortable with doing it, I should enable pcAnywhere so the network may work again." I almost cried. The network was down at work, and his superior deductive reasoing told him that the program that allows you to view/use other computers on the network, would magically fix the network... even though the computer's weren't able to connect to the network. :thumbsdn:

I think this may be my vent for all the retardation he tries to pass off as knowledge. I'm sure many an update will follow.
