My wife and I are having financial trouble?

My wife and I are having financial issues, such that I cannot say "no i don't want to buy this or that". Anytime I try to not spend money, then I am being a marter because she is spending and I am not. So, I sat down and thought up the following solution to the problem.

Guess I should call it ratioing the net amount based on income. Here's how it works: My wife makes an amount (A) and I make an amount (B), which totals to (T). After we remove necessary expenses every month (C), were are left with a net amount (N). The idea is to divide (N) between us based on the incomes (A) and (B).

She would get = N*A/T
I would get = N*B/T

My wifes income varies and sometimes is more than mine. So, sometimes she would have more money to play with and sometimes I would. Seems pretty fair.

To me, this gets rid of the stress of having to always exactly agree on where every dollar goes. And for her she could stop with thinking that I judge her for our situation. However, she claims that this is us not working together.

So my question is, would you consider this to be working together or not and why in either case? Is it possible that she is trying to say something else?
