my vauxhall astra plays up when i signal left. the signal flashes really quickly...

...instead of every 2 seconds or? right signal is fine. car is 10 years old. N Reg. hatchback 5 door version.
 
It's not a relay. If it were the relay none of the turn signals would work. More than likely you have a burnt out turn signal bulb.
 
there is too much current going to the left hand repeater which is due to either:
1.a faulty or dead bulb
2.a loose connection in the wiring
 
Ive seen that problem when you have a bad , non working bulb , check that all bulbs are working correctly , if thats not the problem then you need to have the wireing checked , good luck .
 
If your bulbs are ok, then your Indicator relay may need to be replaced, Turn your indicator on then crawl under the dash and listen for the "clicking" sound of the relay. It will be small box or cylinder about the size of a matchbox. hidden somewhere near your steering column. Find it and replace it. Very cheap item!
 
Check the indicator bulbs. It usually does this if one of you indicator bulbs is either going or has already gone.
