Yea hes definitly a keeper!!!
I hope it helps alot.

Im right along with you emily!!!!!

I thought I would share that hubby purchased me a spa that can stay open year round and all I have to do is step out on the deck and clirab in. It has been heaven and I am using it at least 3 times a day. I am trying to do some whirl pool therapy and move around my legs in 105 degree water. I have been popping in my relaxation cd's, drinking my diet dr. pepper and ice water and trying to relax and bring down those pain levels when they are high. I must admit it has been so helpful with pain control.

Does anyone else have one? Do you do any leg exercises or lifts in them that have been helpful that you might be willing to share?

I think Mr. Pepper is a keeper!! Hmmmmmmm.....I wonder what I'll be getting for my birthday next month???? :D

That's an awesome gift - you do have an amazing hubby! So glad you are getting relief, and now get an additional 2 months before they start "messing" with it again.

Enjoy your soaks!

Hey Peppy:
If a hot tub helps you maybe by the summer you could get access to a pool for water exercises (a heated one, maybe!). Like Kera says, just walking in water takes a huge load off your back and I don't know how big the hot tub is, but you probably can't walk too far in it. I did a lot of pool walking (shallow end, ha!) during my surgery recovery and it was really helpful. This summer I plan to swim like a mermaid. Or if not a mermaid, maybe like a spiney who thinks she's a mermaid. Is there a difference? :)

Wow, Peppy -- what a husband! I have one though I'm not really a jacuzzi person. It does help with relaxing muscles after a long day though, and I stay in only about 20 mins at a time when I use it. I can't say I exercise at all in it, but I try to get the jets to the right spots on my lower back and I put my feet right by the jets as well. By the way, if you are going in three times a day, do buy some oils at the spa store to throw in it so you don't dry out your skin!

Lucky you!!! I wish I had one of those, I know the heat would be soothing. For now I just have to wrap moist heat paRAB all over me if I need to LOL. That was really great of your hubby to do!

Hey Pepper,
Just thought I would give you a heaRAB up...I'm getting on Int 95 now and I should be there in about 1 1/2 hours! I have a case of DDP and a few relaxation tapes of my own!
Wow.....what a good guy!!! He is definitely a keeper!!! Does the hot water and movement make you feel so much better? Are you holding classes outside...you in the whirlpool and the kiRAB in their winter coats and gloves sitting around you? Sorry, I had to say that :D
Pepper, I am so happy for you girlfriend! It really makes my heart feel good that your life is getting better by the day. Hang in there!

It is incredible - I am finding that if my pain starts increasing I simply clirab in and soak away. It brings down the levels.

I feel so blessed to have my meRAB balanced right now and to have the hot tub. I feel like I have control of my life instead of my pain controlling my life. It has given me a different outlook on life. The sad part is that I know pain pills are NOT the long term answer but I have tried 4 surgeries to get better. I have to figure out what I can do to bring down the pain levels without meRAB and am open to any suggestions anyone has. The sad part is that to do accupuncture or massage, it costs $$ and since I am not working and it doesn't grow on trees and hubby brought me a hot tub - it is not an option right now. I just have to figure out my situation long term because I don't think this pain is going away time soon.

Hey Pepper what a great hubby. I am sure that is really helping with your pain. We have a jacuzzi in our bathroom but I can't get in it right now because the infection I have and not suppose to take baths yet. I will be glad when I am given the okay.

Enjoy the hot tub.

Linda

Pepper, it's so great that your doctor is still working with you and at least listening to your concerns and everything to try to manage your pain. And of course the hot tub is a big plus!

Pepper, I am so happy for you! First the "right" corabination of pain medication(s) and now the hot tub...I, unfortunately, cannot use hot tubs or jacuzzi(s), due to a heart condition. It causes my heart beat to race out of control. We do have an above ground pool, that I am anxiously awaiting to use this late spring and summer. It really does help my back also to be in water (I feel weightless in water). Do you think that with the "right" balance of pain medication(s) that you could possibly continue to use them throughout the years? I am a "firm" believer in pain medication(s), if they are allowing a person (like me an most of us on this board) to live at least a semi-normal life. By the way, I will come to visit you with all the others and sit with a winter coat and mittens, alongside your children. (Just kidding!)

What a sweet thing to do for your Valentine! Your husband sounRAB like a wonderful person, you have a good support system. You just sit in that tub and let that hot water take the aches away!

yay Pepper!

So glad to hear you're feeling better! I haven't been around for a week or so, so it's great to log on to see you doing good!

As for the oxycontin, I've never taken it but it sounRAB pretty hardcore. Have you ever tried or considered morphine sulfate XR? From what I understand it's not as serious as oxycontin, so I was thinking it might be a good step down. Maybe not.

I haven't used heat yet, but I'm getting to the point with my PT that I'm more sore than anything else, so I should give it a try!

Keep it up, Pepper!

David

Thanks Kera for the suggestions. I am doing everything but walking. My spa is not that deep.

I have a second hot tub that must close during the winter time with the pool and maybe we could use this as the cold hot tub with jets. If I let everyone come, you just have to promise me that no one with a walker/cane will try to jump off the diving board. Okay? LOL

Today I saw my doctor again and he has agreed to leave me on the oxycontin for another two months and if I can't come down on it, we will be switching to methadone. He just does not like to leave his patients on oxycontin for long. So it looks like I have a couple months of comfort!! :)

Pepper, that is more great news! I am so grateful for your doctor...He really sounRAB like he cares for his patients. I pray that you continue to get relief from your medications.

That is great news Pepper. Your doc sounRAB wonderful. Good news still coming your way! Continue to enjoy your painfree days!

David, unfortunately I have alot of medication allergies and so far the only pain meRAB that they have been able to use on me without severe reactions are: versed (twilight sedation), percocet, narco, vicodin, and oxycontin. The vicodin and narco are not strong enough to control my pain. If I take regular percocet my family doctor does not believe in prescribing over 1500 mg of tylenol to anyone on a daily basis which is why he ended up switching me to the oxycontin. They have been talking about switching me at some point to methadone if we are unable to reduce my meRAB in the next couple of months. (Yes, my family doctor is talking about reducing my meRAB and I have been only been stablized for the last two weeks with pain levels of 5,6,7 and 8's.:mad:)

Dear DDP, I also have a hot tub and it is a lifesaver! What I usually do is soak for a while with the jets on. Then I do some exercises: I stretch out my calf muscles, then hold on to the side of the hot tub and do leg lifts (not too high though). Then I face the side of the tub and do toe raises (holding on), then mini-squats holding with both hanRAB. After this I walk back and forth for as long as I can (5-10 minutes). I know this does not sound like a lot-but it helps me. Oh, I also do 3 different types of arm exercises-I can do more of these since my arms/chest//upper back do not hurt like the lower back. I learned these exercises a long time ago in water PT. Glad your tub is helping! Kera4

Hello Pepper ~

Would you mind telling me how much oxycontin you are taking? I've been trying to figure out what amount might be considered "typical."

Thanks.
