My uncle

I'm a bit worried about my uncle. He's an alcoholic and a drug addict and has skitzofrenia. It seems it was triggered when some men burst into his home one night when he answered the door. Police thought it was mistaken identity since they didn't take anything, they just beat him up.

Now he seems to be getting worse and worse. Started with knives... all over his home. Talking to people that weren't there.

Last night he took a turn for the worse and called the police claiming someone had been shot in his house. The armed response units came and eventually the confusion was smoothed over... but I worry what he's going to do next, and I think he's a danger to himself and maybe even others now he's getting so bad. :/

He won't accept any help, and when he was taken to the doctor, he refused any help from them too, and claimed he was fine and that we were exagerating.

I don't know how bad it has to get before these people will give him help, whether he chooses it or not.

Insane asylum

seriously, people with skitzophrenia are very unstable, take him the the asylum or something. and skitzies that are drunk WITH drugs....jesus....tell somebody!!

There's medication for schizophrenia. I am fairly certain that alcohol and drugs aren't supposed to be taken with them (actually I know alcohol for a fact... pretty sure the drugs too though). Taking this med (the name escapes me at the moment) can allow someone to live a normal life though, sans the asylum.

He will have to come "clean" before he can get better. You definitely need to intervene, well someone does. I don't know how old you are so I can't say "you". It won't be easy or pretty, but it is necessary.

I only say these things because I have someone dear to me suffering this- minus the alcohol/drug abuse. Good luck hun. I have no idea how to tell you to go about doing this. If he was diagnosed with schizophrenia then find out who the doctor was and call him. If you don't know I suppose you could call the hospitals and see what they say they'd need to admit him. That would be the first step, I'd think.

See if you can transport him to a clinic or something while he's sedated. Thats what my friend's parents did to him...working so far.

For the schizophrenia...I've heard that people with the condition are very good artists; they perceive differently or something. Maybe art could be a new 'drug'(if you will)? Anyway...good luck with that. Hope your attempts to fix him up go well.

We had him admitted to an asylum once, and with medication he showed a lot of improvement. So they released him. :/ Needless to say he went downhill again.

After the incident the other night he's getting more medication, and treatment again, but again they don't intend to keep him in for a long stay.

Thanks for your opinions and advice. I agree that he needs to be clean, and that he probably needs to be commited... but the bureaucracy of it is amazing.
