My tv kept making these weird reddish lines, and now won't work at all?

I use a standard definition Magnavox television with my Xbox 360. It was working up until a week ago. It started with these weird reddish lines all over my screen, and i would have to keep changing from regular channel back to video mode over and over until it worked again. The sound was perfectly normal. Yesterday, it stopped working. the sound is still good, but now there is just one completely horizontal line that goes across the middle of my screen. It won't work at all.Can i fix this at all by myself or do i need to seek a repairman? Can you also tell me approx. how much it will cost to fix?

And please, no posts that tell me to switch to HD. I love the SD TV i already use, and i want to salvage it.
the tv does the same thing with the horizontal line when only the power cable is in. I plugged in my xbox with an hdmi cable to my monitor, but that can only be temporary. Since i plugged it in with an HDMI and not the regular red, yellow and white cables, does that mean my xbox is ok?

Does it do the same thing when it's just TV and NOT the Xbox? I had the same problem (interestingly enough, it was also with a Magnavox TV) but it was the video card in my Xbox. Try taking the Xbox over to a friends house and plugging it into their TV. If it still doesn't work, than it's your Xbox. If it is, it's probably and E74 error and you can send that to Microsoft and get a new Xbox free of charge.
