My Touch slide "locks" dead

Hello everyone I am a android user my phone is my touch slide with T-Mobile. Twice for no good reason my phone has just gone dead,locked cannot powerup or anything else for that matter,Then as if by magic the next motning it works just fine. this has happened to my wife's my touch as well. Now my phones touchpad screen quits thankfully this is corrected by power off /on but the fix is only temporary. message "messages(process.com.android.mms) has unexpectedly quit came up last night for first time.

Please help this newbee out!
 
I assume you've been to the mytouch forum at T-Mobile? I see people having whack-o issues after updating to 2.2. Does your phone re-boot when it comes back on or just come back on as you left it? Tried pulling the battery? Reset?
