My Touch and 2.0

The google navigation feature looks really impressive. Will the mytouch 3g get the 2.0 update? Does it have the memory and processing speed to handle it? It just seems ridiculous that a phone as new as the mytouch would not receive the update. I just really don't feel like having to buy a newer android phone to get the newest software!

i'm really curious too! I just bought my mytouch and I think i can still return it...but i LOVE the phone. However, if it's already outdated due to lack of 2.0....i might need to. Does anyone know? I already asked this on a different thread...but this topic is very specific to my question.

Here is an article pertaining to the G1 as far as getting future updates.
It looks very grim for the G1. but the MyTouch 3g should be just fine.
Here is the SAD breakdown for the G1:http://androidandme.com/2009/10/news/g1-owners-could-miss-out-on-android-2-0/
G1 = Internal 192 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM
MyTouch = Internal192 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM

MyTouch has almost twice as much ROM so it should definitely get Android 2.0!

wow... this makes me kinda sad. I also had my G1 since first day of preorder release. I think it's friggen frustrating that with still another year to go on my 2yr contract, to have to get new phone to have 2.0. WAIT.... I know, I know, I can ROOT and make everything like I want. But like a lot of people have stated , as well as myself, I shouldn't have to root to get new release of OS.

Oh well, guess we'll see what happens. I really hope we G1'ers can at least get maybe a slimmed down version of 2.0? that would be cool to me.

thank you Notxel! that makes me feel hopeful that i'll get it on the mytouch! I have 14 more days to return it, thats why i'm VERY curious to find out. If anyone gets an official confirmation...i'd love it if you'd share it. I'm sure we'll hear news soon.

Welcome to the world of technology... it is a harsh reality. With technology developing at such a fast pace things are always changing and improving. When you buy a new phone, computer, TV, etc you should go into the purchase knowing that there will be bigger and better things on the market within the next few months.

I know this can be frustrating because we, as humans, desire to have the best gadgets and it is annoying to know that your gadget is "outdated"... but that is all a part of the vicious cycle. It is extremely frustrating with smartphones because carriers lock you into the 2-yr contract, which is ridiculous for phones! I know some carriers have the option for 1 year contracts, but you obviously pay more for your phone when signing a shorter contract. If this is worth it to you, and having the latest and greatest phones is a big deal... then that is the route to go.

But there is really no reason to get frustrated, because there is nothing you can do about it. Believe me, I know how bad it sucks to want the latest gadget but to be in a contract that does not expire for another year Wireless carriers have consumers by the balls

Oh yeah, and you cannot expect older devices to be able to upgrade and use the latest and greatest features. It is all a part of the cycle in an ideal world, it would be nice to get all of the latest and greatest updates on your old hardware... but that is an unrealistic expectation. If developers would hold back in order to include older hardware, then they would be sacrificing awesome new features and functionality for the latest and greatest devices on the market!

Sorry for the long-winded post

Hey, if it makes you feel any better, all of the people that have MyTouch or the new Droid that can run 2.0 will be in your position in a year when your contract is up and you're looking at the next great device. It's a cycle, man.

Yes but it's a cycle of frustration. I only have the myTouch because my G1 experienced some moisture in the screen so I got a new phone. If that hadn't happened I'd still have to wait to get the sweet, sweet 2.0 goodness.
