my son has been diagnosed with ebv in his blood work

does anyone know about ebv i know its mono but the werid part is that my 3 yr old son is not even sick . i took him to the doctor because he had a small knot the size of 1cm in his neck . when i took him the doctor found another one in his neck and two in his groind area . he sent him for blood work and it came back with high levels of ebv but he said he dosnt have the virus now that he probobly had it a year or so ago but because my son has the sickle cell trait the b cells stayed in his body and he will have ebv for the rest of his life . he also said that this can cause lyphoma wich is scary he said he is ok right now but we have to watch it closly to make sure the knots dont get bigger or more come i am scared he is my baby i dont want any thing to happen to him dose anyone have any advice or have delt with this type of illness should i take him to a speacial ist ? what should i do ?

You will find over 90% of Americans have had EBV at some point in their life. Some never know it and a lot have it as a child like your son, some get it in their teens nown as glandular fever (the kissing disease because its spread through saliva).

Your doctor is right to say you must keep an eye out for further growth, what he is worried about is Hodgkin's lymphoma. However he should of told you that many children grow without any problem, their immune system is able to suppress the EBV without further problem.

He should be fine as long as he doesn't need any major treatment that could lower the immune system enough to give it chance to flare up.
 
he also had some knots in his neck or cysts that was my concern that they could be lyphoma should i get it checked into further the ped said they are small and nothing to worry about yet unless they get bigger but im thinkin why not have it removed and biop to make sure
 
I think you shoud, and if it is possible I would get a second opinion. Instead of taking him back to the original doctor get a second opinion. There is no harm in doing this, if only it is just to give you piece of mind.

Demand they test for lymphoma, if it comes back negative you have ruled something out. This is your child, go with your instinct and do what you think is right. Don't ever feel you worry too much, that's what mothers are for!!!
