My son cut his forehead - stitches were removed a couple of days ago - wound suddenly...

...looks black? I think what happened is that the wound is completely closed, but that he hit his head again and the wound started bleeding again, but the blood couldn't leave and just turned black. However, I'm not 100% sure. The last time we checked the wound was approximately 24 hours ago (it's been covered with a band-aid). Would that be enough time for that to happen? Would that make sense? It also seems like the swelling has slightly increased in size again, but again, not entirely sure. It's a fairly minor bump overall.

He seems perfectly fine, does not appear to have a fever or be in pain or anything. He's only 2.75yo and has a serious speech delay and autistic tendencies (including a totally random response to pain), so I can't ask him how he feels or whether he hit his head earlier today.

It's Friday night 2:14 AM, so I can't take him to the doctor, and I don't want to blow thousands of dollars on the ER unless it's absolutely necessary (the three stitches cost $2000 already).
Nope, the band-aid was perfectly clean when my son pulled it off. The bleeding happened below the scar/skin/whatever.

It can't be dried up blood from the original bleeding - there wasn't enough blood left in the wound to make for that much black stuff. I really think he just hit his head again and it started bleeding some more, sometime last night after changing his band-aid. I just freaked for a moment after seeing a black scar on his face.

After the stitches were removed the cut was maybe 1.5mm wide, whereas the black area now it's more like 3mm wide. I hope he isn't going to have a big ugly scar on his face when he's older.

Oh, and before someone reads my question and worries about necrosis - it's the original cut that's black or maybe very dark red - not the skin tissue surrounding the cut. The skin tissue surrounding the cut is pretty much his normal skin color.
