My Sister's Keeper

I'm going to reread the book as soon as finish the other three I've got on the go.

My Sister's Keeper entered at 4 on the UK Box Office Chart. Took £922,947, a creditable start according to the article due to its subject matter. I had seen quite a few billboards advertising the film though but it didn't even get reviewed in Heat, my weekly trashy magazine I read.My brother who works at a city cinema wasn't expecting it to be a hit. It was showing at 355 screens, less than the rest in the top 6.
 
I loved the movie. Although certain changes upset me, I'm sure those of you who have seen it know what I am talking about...

The end of the book totally gets to me each time :(

You know i was thinking of putting spoiler quotes on the bits we were saying on what happened to Anna, seeing as many ppl probably hadnt read the book, but i dont know how to do that lol


Like ice_ice said Dakota was suppose to play Kate (apparently she didnt want to shave her hair off) and Elle was suppose to be Anna, but i cant see Elle as Anna, i can see Dakota as Kate - also i dont think Elle would have done justice to the role of Anna as Abigail would have, Abigail would taken it to another level with Anna, Abigail is something special :cool:

Even when reading the book, i pictured Abigail as Anna



Yes, i am really liking Sofia through her interviews, she's so mature and speaks so well and so soft-spoken - and judging from what i have seen of Sofia as Kate, she seems to have done a great job
 
I like what Kate did to that nurse - she freaked :lol:

And also when Kate told her mum 'she did it' :lol:
 
From what I've read, you're right. Dakota was going to be Kate and Elle was going to be Anna.

I suggest reading the book first ASAP, you wont be disappointed - its great and heart-breaking
 
I seen it yesterday :D

I have to say i enjoyed it, and actually preferred this ending esp seeing how the story went in the movie, i felt it was the right ending to have

From what i read of how good Cameron was, i got what i expected from her - this is a Cameron i have never seen, acting wise

Sofia was fantastic, esp to play a role like this, and to look like that - i get why Sofia said why she felt like she did when filming this, she is someone to look out for in the future, i hope she has a bright career ahead of her - she' is someone i like to call along with Abigail - the future of Hollywood and i hope they both live up to it :)

I have high hopes Abigail in this movie, seeing since i am her fan - i loved her in it, she was brilliant - the range of various emotions she had to get across - it came naturally, and like many have said i think she is best crier on-screen, you get tears in your eyes when she cries its happened a couple of times to me when watching her movies or watching a tv episode of a show she's been on

Jason Patric and Evan Ellingson were good, the subtle performances by them came through, you felt for Jesse - when you see him as a lonely drifter

Scenes the stood out for me were -
[sp]The beach scene, that song totally gets to you
Kate going crazy then taking the pills, and Anna shouting her to stop and then knocking her over to get to the pills :(
Kate walking down the stairs to her prom with Taylor
All of Kate and Anna's scenes esp the one in the garden, where Anna asks her to wait for her :(
Sara finally breaking down and crying, my heart broke for Sara in that scene, she finally let it out - never once had we seen her cry or give up in the movie until that end bit where she breaks down - Ever since she found Kate got cancer, she's not once cried or dwelled on why Kate got it but its always been on trying to keep her alive etc

Also for ages, Kate's known she wants to die, after Taylor going it took something out of her IMO[/sp]

Going to get the soundtrack for sure :D

I loved the movie, and i am glad it didnt disappoint me :)
 
This was a great movie! My sister an I laughed at some parts and cried at others. I think everyone should go and see it!
 
i have never read this book...actually i hadnt ever even heard of it.

but i saw the trailer the other day, and even that almost made me cry! looks like it will be a phenomenal movie. perhaps i will have to get the book and read it before the movie comes out
 
Thanks :D It really was a great book, it's not usually the sort of book I read so I was surprised, but it was definately worth branching out of my usual genre for.

[sp]I felt for every character as well, especially Sara at the end. Like you said, she was totally prepared for the loss of Kate and had been fighting it for so long, but Anna....she never really expected to lose her, especially so suddenly and the way she did :( I was really sad that Anna died at the end :cry: [/sp] The quote in your signature sums it up perfectly. I :love: that quote.

I have read that a lot of people weren't happy with the choice for Abigail to play Anna because they'd wanted Dakota Fanning to have stayed on. I always thought she would have been playing Kate anyway and Elle was supposed to be Anna.....that's besides the point. I'm actually really happy that they dropped out because like you said, I think Abigail is perfect for Anna, she's such an amazing actress and I know she'll be awesome in this role.

Plus, it looks like Sofia has done an amazing job with Kate's character as well. I've heard really good things about her portrayal and she always seems to have really thrown herself into the character from her interviews!
 
Maybe they would have, if he wasnt in on the secret with Anna and Kate

Good thing is Kate confided in him and also Anna

I have said it many times, i also think Abigail is the perfect Anna - she's just so talented actress that will pull of the role amazingly :cool:
 
Yes, on reflection, this was probably one of the better book-to-film adaptations I've seen. Normally, I'm quite fussy, ever since I saw the Beach (Danny Boyle may be a local hero but I really disliked the film).

The point you made about the message of the film is very true,

^ Same here. :/ I always found that really interesting and it made perfect sense for his character, being he felt so ignored and overlooked.
