My Sister's Keeper

Saw the movie yesterday! I loved it. Even though I am a die-hard fan of the book I still think the movie was well-crafted in its own way. I think they followed the book well (up until the end, of course) and even changes I can accept. For me, everyone did a fabulous job although, yes because of all the Cameron hype beforehand, I came in expecting a lot more from her than she delivered. I actually think the most powerful performance came from Sofia and then a close second tie is the boy who played Jesse and the actor playing the dad.

I bawled in several spots, but always found myself laughing and crying at the same time. It was at times very overwhelming and powerful. I loved the pauses the actors were able to take to let you just feel the moment and know exactly what's going on without a word being said.

Anyway, loved it and highly recommend, this coming from a diehard fan of the book!

Awesome :D I'll have to check it out. I bet she'll be really down to earth as normal. I  seeing Abigail in interviews. She's always so normal and seems totally unaffected by working with massive movie stars :D

Thanks for the interview!

This movie was so sweet I loved the Prom scene too,Kate looked so pretty.
I really like the scenes between Kate and Anna those were so touching, especially when Kate asked her to let her go and stop letting there parents do all these procedures on her to save her life.

Taylor was great he was so sweet and he really cared about Kate

Is it weird that I wanna hear more from Sofia Vassilieva and not Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin?

I saw that Pete Yorn video this morning and was going to add it but didn't know how

I  that we get to see some more scenes from the movie that weren't included in the trailer :D I'll have a look and if there isn't one I'll start a Sofia appreciation thread!

Loads of people were crying when I went to see the movie. I think almost everyone was sniffling.

Was it really number 4? That's pretty good :D

Costars Helped Cameron Diaz Cope with Father's Death
By Jed Dreben

Cameron Diaz was in the middle of filming My Sister's Keeper last year when her father Emilio died suddenly during a bout with pneumonia. The actress credits the cast, crew and director with helping her get through the ordeal – and finish the movie.

"I was really, really fortunate to have these people to come back to," Diaz told reporters Friday while promoting the film, which costars Abigail Breslin and Sofia Vasssilieva. "Being able to go back to the group of people who were there waiting for me was a blessing, ... so that's really sort of the only way I was able to do it."

During Diaz's nearly two-week absence, they shot around her, explained director Nick Cassavetes. "To talk about this subject, you really have to say that people are more important than movies, and we forget that sometimes," Cassavetes says. "We were all stunned to find out that he had died so suddenly and, apparently, he was a hell of a guy and a gigantic influence on Cameron."

Difficult Return
When Diaz returned to the set, it wasn't easy, said Cassavetes. "She was like the rest of us – a rag doll and unsure and didn't know what country she was in and truly wasn't fully able to comprehend what had happened to her," he says. "But, being the consummate professional that she was, she always comes prepared. It was more of an experience of her getting through it and let's finish."

On a lighter note, Diaz, 36, poked fun at herself and the possible downside of being cast as the mother of a 16-year-old [Vasssilieva.] "I'm not 25 anymore," she says. "And, so, it's not something that I'm worried about. I could have had a 16-year-old child – I could. I might have if I was a different person. I always say, 'I'm sure I've got a few out there I don't know about' – Just a joke. Oh, great, I'm going to have to be reading about that one for a long time!"

Gosh, can't wait to watch the movie! It looks so interesting...
I think I'm going to buy the book today cause i'm really curious lol

This was a really good movie! I didn't like it as much as I liked the book, but I wasn't expecting to. My only disappointment was that they didn't really characterize any of the characters outside of Anna and Sara. For example, I would have loved to have seen more Brian, Jesse, and Campbell, as they were all some of my favorite characters in the book. Still, I did really enjoy the movie. Abigail Breslin and Cameron Diaz did AMAZING jobs! Everyone did a really fantastic acting job, actually. Even the people that I would have liked to have seen more out of, like Alec Baldwin as Campbell, were fantastic.

I think everybody says she's amazing and she really is. I  that in her interviews she is so normal. I saw some interviews with Dakota Fanning the other day. She's a really good actress too (although I prefer Abigail) but I just can't stand watching her interviews. She seems like she's trying to be too mature for her age, almost like someone's told her exactly what to say etc etc

Why Cameron Diaz didn't shave her head for 'My Sister's Keeper'

Cameron Diaz plays the tough-as-nails mother of a sick daughter in “My Sister’s Keeper." She gives birth to a second child to provide organ transplants for her ailing eldest. Things get complicated when the second daughter, played by Abigail Breslin, decides to sue her parents, played by Diaz and Jason Patric.

In the admittedly creepy-weepy-sounding but reportedly uplifting film, Diaz's character is seen shaving her head. And as we reported last year, she kinda looks a friendlier Dr. Evil.

But she tells the Dish Rag that she didn't really make the cut. Why? Because she needed to be bald for only one day of shooting. She also didn't wear makeup. "No makeup. It was so fantastic. It was great. It took so much time off of when you have to get up and be ready. No makeup. It was great.

But her 15-year-old costar Sofia Vassilieva totally went for it.

“I have so much respect for this child because she shaved her head when she was 15 years old. She had hair down to here. She shaved her head, she shaved her eyebrows, and she owned it. I mean, she was scared at first. I won’t say that she … she pushed through that fear, and I was just so inspired by her. She was an inspiration to us all. At the end of the day, she’d have the makeup artist paint all these things around her head and paint around her eyes and wear these big these earrings and like big scarves. She just really owned it and sort of made it something special for herself."

To research her role, Cameron talked at The City of Hope with mothers with seriously ill children.

“Although their circumstances might be different, whether it was economics or the dynamics of their families, maybe not married or separated from their husbands or divorced or whatever, the one thing that was the same for all of them was that when you have a sick child, all you do is try to save that child. There’s nothing else. You don’t go, 'Oh, no, it’s OK, don’t worry about it. It will be fine.' Or you don’t say, 'Oh, there’s nothing else we can do? OK, cool.' It’s like there’s a vigilance that these mothers have to take part in and be there 24 hours a day, and they know what treatments their child should be having.”

Because of her unrelenting responsibilities, Sara is often not a particularly sympathetic character.

“She’s a mother who’s trying to save a child and what is she supposed to do?" says Diaz. "You know what I mean? She’s been doing it for a decade now. She’s been trying to keep her child alive. It’s really, really exhausting. It’s no time for her to be apathetic. There’s never a moment that she can just sort of lay down and go, 'No, I don’t give a. ...' There’s just not. Even when she’s in remission, there’s not because you’re always waiting for that moment that happens in the movie where she’s up all night with 103 temperature and she has nose bleeds. I mean, that could happen at any moment."

Cameron Diaz Talks About Playing A Mom In 'My Sister's Keeper'

Cameron Diaz has entered dangerous territory for Holllywood. In My Sister's Keeper, she plays the mother of a teenage daughter. Many actresses say, once they see you as a mom, you can never go back.

"I didn't really think about it," Diaz said. "I really don't think about this stuff too hard. I just find my way through it. I didn't really even think about the fact that I would be playing a mother. I didn't think about it in terms of what it meant to my career. I thought of what it meant to the story, and who this woman was and what her life experience was and what was happening in front of her. I didn't think, 'Oh, my God, if I play a mother, and a mother of teenagers, how is this going to affect my career?' It didn't even phase me."

Keeper portrays a family dealing with Leukemia. As close as she is with her family, Diaz hopes the film will make those more fortunate appreciate the gifts they have in their lives.

"Family is so important. What drew all of us to this story was the family, and the stories of each of these characters. I think we all related to the fact that there isn't anything that you wouldn't give someone that you love that deeply. You do whatever it takes to keep that person alive. I think that that's something that spoke to most of us, for this film, and what I think is so effective, in the film. I think the most important thing that I've found in my life is just my family and friends. Your wealth in life are the people that you get to love and who love you back, and all the experiences that you get to have with those people, throughout your life. Some come and some go. Some stay for a really long time, some leave quickly, some linger, and all of those experiences are the wealth of your soul. Those are the things that I'm most grateful for."

I have read about 3 reviews on it, including Jodi's - Jodi loved it

And the other two reviews have been so postive :)

I hope she does do an interview or two 'cause I've only ever seen one interview of her (have never heard of any others) and it was that one that was kinda a Medium/My Sister's Keeper double one
