my sidekick lx doesn't read my memory card?

when i put in my memory card it said that it needed to b formatted so i did. at first it wouldn't format on the phone so i did it on the computer. so it formatted but it still couldn't be read.
if i need to get the slot fixed how much would it cost?
or do i just need a different memory card?
