My Samsung TV's sound doesn't work?

I received it a year ago but only plugged it in the other day. I'm not using cable with it; only a DVD player. When it turns on it makes that beeping sound, but the sound doesn't otherwise work. It's a series 4 450 LCD TV.
 
Be sure the audio cables are tightly in both the output and input holes. Or try different cables. And be sure you are selecting the right input for where you have plugged the dvd player into the tv. If all else fails, plug the audio cables into any stereo system you may have in your house and that will work.
