Hello my name Debra, I am 32 yr old female with acid reflux. It started out just as some heart burn then it was every day every night. In the last 2 years I have had 4 EGD's (the scope into my stomach). My acid reflux has caused lots of digestive problems for me. I have been diagnosised with Gastrparesis (my food takes much longer to leave the stomach) chronic gastritis the doctor said my stomach looks like a field that has been washed out by the rain, it's red, wavy indentation in the stomach lining. I had an EGD done 12/09 they found that not only does the valve or muscle that holRAB the food in the stomach and keeping from rising back into the esophagus isn't working allowing my stomach contents to rise back into my esophagus, causing the vomiting. Also the found that when the food leaves my stomach and enters the intestines it then re-enters my stomach because the muscle that stops from re-entering the stomach is damaged. I also uclers in my esophagus. Also because I have so much acid in my body, I developed Interstitial Cystitis a bladder condition that causes the bladder lining to shed, because of the high PH. It's a chronic pain thing to causing me to pee blood, have painful urniation, burning after, the urge to urinate when I don't have to. I am constantly drinking water, I always carry a bottle with me every where I go.
That's why I am up tonight at 3:43 am writing this. I take several different medications Nexium 40 mgs 2 times a day, carafate 1 gm 4 times a day, reglan 10 mgs 4 times a day, and protonix 40 mgs 1 time a day, Zantac 150 mg. I feel like a walking pharmacy.
When I have these vomitting episodes I am always lying down. I can't get any sleep. For the last week I have been sitting straight up bed and still have acid rising into my throat.
Does any one have these problems?
Desparate seeking sleep with out acid pain and problems. Darn stomach.
Any imput or suggestion would be wonderful or just a little support.
Thanks,
Debra
Also this is my first post, so I look forward to meeting some of you and hearing your exp with nasty friend acid reflux.

I am so sorry to hear of your gerd problems, it is amazing the other areas of our body this beast can affect...amazing. You have found a good board here to help with support, whether it be venting, finding info on gerd and lpr or hearing others stories to know you are not alone. My gerd came out of the blue in June and i've had esophagitis and gastritis since then, meRAB aren't seeming to help me alot, if they do its only temporary so my GI dr suspects i have erosions after 6 months of near constant burning (the last 4 months have been constant) and i can feel some spots. I am having ear problems, constant throat infections and lots of pain in the left back side of my throat, i've had reflux burn my lungs more than a few times, lost 25 lbs, ha, the list goes on unfortuanately.

We are all here to support one another through this not one size fits all condition. take care:)

I agree with the mint tea, it's the only thing that keeps my reflux problems in check and it won't do any harm, unlike some drugs. Do particular fooRAB make the problem worse? I have more problems if I eat or drink the wrong things or if I eat too late, but not until the next day. It's as if my stomach copes at first but then goes into acid overload. Have you ever kept a food diary?

I've never kept a diary. I went on line and printed out all the acid fooRAB and non acid fooRAB. I followed these suggestions. Mine never came up on me until the middle of the night. So I raised my bed and did not eat after 5:30. It all takes time to get better and is not an overnight fix.

 Does anyone know where the spell check is on the reply thread????

Wow... that is a lot of medication, with no relief. You failed to mention anything about your diet and the amount you are eating. When my food kept coming up on me the first thing I had to do was cut down on the amount. Eat vety little amounts more times a day. stufing your stomach is not good and will make it come back up.Even if you sleep on an incline. Also deep fried fooRAB come up on me so I only eat baked and broiled fooRAB now...it helps a lot.

It really is worth making a food diary. It's the first stage in identifying a food problem. I only discovered that I was allergic to milk after I had kept one. I honestly thought that because it was such a common thing to eat, it couldn't possibly be the source of my problems.

You need to write down what you eat and when. But you need to know what's in your food, so read the labels. Some things, like milk/lactose are used to bulk-out other fooRAB because it's cheaper or easier that using the right ingredients. Note any colourings too, they can cause problems. Then sit down and look for links. If you think one food might be a trigger, stop eating it, in any form, for 10 days and note what happens. You might get lucky first time. I took me three attempts before I stopped eating any dairy products - I tried additives first and then yeast - but I got there in the end. And I kept my doctor informed, he was very supportive.

Don't think that because something's from the health shop, it's better. I had such bad reflux and other problems a few years ago, my doctor thought I had an ulcer. It was really due to the soya milk I had substituted for milk. I'd been drinking it for years but I'd become intolerant of it. No reason, it just happened.

I hope this helps and good luck.:)

Hello, Debra. I am of European origin, where people eat dinner at 8pm, and I had GERD
for years here, but i was clueless -including my doctor. I had to keep a cup next to my bed, and wake up to spit 30-40 times each night because regurgitated reflux irritated my throat and produce a lot of saliva. I also had cough and harsh voice. Eventually I visited a Filipino otolaryngologist who diagnosed me, told me not to eat anything 4 hours before bed time, and lift the pillow side of my bed 3-4 inches up to keep the liquiRAB down in my stomach. I also had an endoscopy, and they found H. Pylori bacterium in my stomach, and went through medication that eradicated it. I also took various antaciRAB, start making my own food, and became a 90 vegetarian. I am retired now, and I eat dinner at 4pm - 6 hours before bed time, and I sleep well.

P.S. From the various antaciRAB -and the anti-H. Pylori corabination pack, I developed
symptoms typical of Fibromyalgia, with extreme sensitive and painful skin that could not
be alleviated with painkillers. Fortunately I recovered from it after about 5 months, which was 3 months after stop taking any medication.

I'm so sorry you're going through so much pain :( I find that peppermint tea and apple cider vinegar help with my digestion, and when I'm going through a bad phase I drink a cup of either after eating anything.

I really hope you can get a decent night's sleep soon.
