...References from cited sources welcome.? A student was asked to explain how Brenda might understand George's utterance in the following exchange-
Brenda: I can't believe you've eaten all my chocolates.
George: But you said you didn't like them!
The student's suggestion was:
--> 'George has said that Brenda didn't like the chocolates anyway so that's why he ate them all.'
The question I have to answer is this:
1. Point out three ways in which the student's account fails to make clear what is involved in Brenda's act of utterance interpretation.
2.For each of the three shortcomings you have just pointed out, make a suggestion for changing the account which will lead to a fuller, more satisfactory account.
(P.S.-- I am very lost on this one and have to submit it in three days! Any ideas would be a life saver!)
