When streaming large files for a long period of time, the files may corrupt over the air, leaving them unreadable.
Most likely causes to this are:
The computer with the server may have went into sleep.
The computer with the server may have been unattended for a certain period of time, which would make the components run slower to save power.
Your wireless router has become warm because of constant network activity which could activate the router to go into "Silent Mode" which would use less power, and send the data at a slower rate.
Your PlayStation 3 cannot decode the packets of data that the server is sending fast enough.
To avoid this problem:
Make sure that the computer running your server does not have Energy Saving technology enabled while streaming data for a long period of time.
Make sure that you are not streaming the large file from a laptop that is using WiFi.
Make sure that you are not streaming from your laptop that is using the same WiFi connection as your PlayStation 3.
Make sure that your connection is at least 512KBps upload and 3MBps download. (Faster is better)
Make sure that your PS3 and your server are the only things using the network.
Make sure that the computer running the server doesn't have a lot of other high demand programs, such as a web browser or a video game open while streaming the file.
Make sure the computer running the server is not using up 100% of the available processor, and has at least 700MB RAM available.
Make sure that your computer's screen saver is set to never turn on.
In my personal experience, your computer is idling, which will cause what you are experiencing.
