My PS2 has that Disc Reda Error problem?

I was playin it and it only reads just a certain amount of discs like I'll put in on disc and it will work but then I put in another and the famous disc read error appears. What should I clean the lens with and do you think the little white gear should be closer or farther from the disc?
 
my old ps2 only played dvds at one time then only games no dvds lol so if u go to walmart and buy a phillips dvd/game cleaner for like 8 bucks it works like a charm dude. its a disc with to brushes on shiny side and cleans out ur whole thing.................good luck tell me how this works for you if u do it
