My PS2 analogue controller is faulty.B4 i even press the direction buttons...

...the icon already moves on screen? For instance when i want to play a snooker game the room is revolving as if i have the direction button pressed down.
Or if i want to make a selection for instance to type my name in it is continually going through the alphabet without me being able to stop it.
I've tried unscrewing the controller & seeing if there is any dirt inside but there wasn't,& its not resolved the problem.
I have has the control pad for 3 or 4 years now should i just replace it or is there anything else i could try please to solve the problem,thanks?
Button doesn't appear to be jammed.
The icon is moving continually left to right.
 
Make sure the button is not jammed. That has happened to me before and I had to buy a new one because I could not figure out how to get that damn button out! (excuse my french!). This has also happened to me with the analog stick, instead of it being in the middle it is lower then it is supposed to be causing my character to move!
