I was in the middle of printing out a 35 page PHP template for a project I'm working on and it just shit itself. The ink cartridge is half full, it just won't output any ink on the paper. Fuck you HP. :mfinger:

I have another printer, this is just an old one I use for printing up text so it doesn't cost me $50 every two months for a new cartridge. I'm looking on Ebay right now for an old printer to replace this one.
 
Died how? As in stopped printing? What model HP printer was this?

I happen to know a little about teh HP goodness that has become the HP stinkshitness.

No such thing as a good printer anymore.

Question, did you ever put a refilled cartridge in it? It's not just HP trying to make more money when they say those things cause problems.
 
As in I think the electonics that make the ink spray quit working. It's a Deskjet 960c.

Nope, never. I fond some similar printers on Ebay for decent prices; I'm probably going to just buy one. This printer was cheap when I bought it 4 or 5 years ago, and probably costs more to fix than to replace.
 
I had the same problem... FIRST! try running a cleansing run to get all the ink crust and shit off, then if that doesn't work, clean it yourself, then, if that doesn't work, restart it, and start it back up(always works for me), then, if it still doesn't work, eat something, and call up HP and ask 'em WTF?!?! Yelling is a necessity.
 
Kinda what I expected. Cartridges do sometimes die. In other cases HP (including this model) has actually set expiration dates on their cartridges. They're actually being sued for this but thats beside the point. If you have a cartridge that just shuts down and won't work, there's a good chance that it's "expired".

To get around an expired HP cartridge, you simply need 3 other cartridges. (Yup, didn't think so, kind of a useless work around.) HP printers only remember the last three cartridges that are in them. So if say cartridge 1 dies, turn off the printer, replace cartridge 1 with cardridge 2 and reboot the printer. Repeat with cartridges 3 and 4. From there cartridge 1 will work again. Assuming of course you had 3 spare cartridges laying around. Because you keep 3 empties around the house. (If you had another full one you'd have already put it in there.)

The technology involved in spraying the ink is in the cartridge itself. RARELY will that actually fail. All the printer provides is an engine to interpret the job and a carriage for the ink cartridge. Everything else is handled on the actual ink.
 
i know I had a cannon printer do the same thing.. they told me the thing that holds the cartridge has all the stuff in it for controlling the flow and operation of the cartridge... In thier opinion the electronics went fritz in that caddy and the signals for the cartridge to pump ink werent getting to it..
