To fix a burning tongue caused by LPR do the following:
1) Use Baking Soda for toothpaste
2) Don't drink any fruit drinks (important)
3) Buy the spray that creates saliva and spray it into your mouth when you wake up in the middle of the night.

It will take about 10 days to go back to completely normal.

ouch my tounge really hurts this week like inflamed sore feeling,, this horrible LPR is giving me tounge issues now not just the ussuall burning feeling but it feels really sore and inflamed, it looks normal, but i still wake up every morning with a yucky furry coating on my tounge........so im drinking heaps of water and did a saline mouth rinse this morning hoping it will improve cause it hurts and really taking any enjoyment left out of food......anyone esle have this problem.........does anyone go into remission with this LPR thing, oh to have a few weeks feeling normal would be bliss. im on prevacid and it helps moslty my gut things but not the LPR, i had heaps more benfits with losec but it made me sooooooooooo dizzy, which i already have anyway..

nessie,

Not sure if your post shows as I reply but sorry you're having problems with your tongue. I hate when I get that burning mouth feeling, which makes me feel like my tongue is burning. I have no idea what causes that and didn't relate that to LPR but apparently it's "another" symptom for some of us. My whole throat and mouth either feel like full of mucus or very dry and burning. Not sure which is worse! Take care.

thanks everyone, my tognue is alot better but still in the background, i have been taking alittle liquid mylanta before bed and using baking soda for toothpaste and using the liquid that char uses to swish around my mouth, i was using that liquid for about a month a few months ago, so i may buy a new bottle and start having a drink before bed to see if it helps to,
my LPR is better than what it was a few months ago but no where near resolved, i actually feel the domperione that im on is helping me more than PPI, not sure how long i can stay on domperidone for anyone no? its says for short term use only but then again so does PPI lol
thaks for the avice neddy, im going to find some organic non floranated, non mint toothpaste and try that mixed with baking soda that i can use permately i so need the feeling of toothpaste lol, not sure about the spray thing have never heard of it but will check it out, have a great day everyone, ness

hi char
how are you, i have researched this site under the search engine and tongue burning sore et is a common LPR complaint along with normal single PH probe tests coming out as normal, so i need to find out how to get a ph test for LPR which may be impossible in this country, however i have decided to try and email or contact as many ENT as possible asking if they know about LPR, our county is only 4 million so not that many ENT around lol..........I really want to prove to my surgeon that its nessecary to have a fundo,!!!! either that or a miracle will occur and the meRAB will finally start helping, they have helped a little!!! but not enough i have been doing mouth washes today with aloe vera juice and saline, little bit better...

I am a new meraber to the group and I say that we must make our own efforts to get rid of these conditions rather than depending on medicines. One of the most common error is to treat the disease as we repair our mechanical instruments. The treatment of these disease rarely give attention to the fact that we have to envisage the symptoms as resultant of physical ,emotional and attitude issues. The moment these are in place and we stop making mistakes that we have made we can get relief from the diseased condition

Nessie,

I'm doing ok with my voice but have another sinus infection, which I think is also a part of LPR. I swear by the juice that I drink but it's not a cure. I'm sore from hacking all the time!

It's hard in the area I live to find an ENT spec that understanRAB LPR or that even knows about it. It is becomming more and more diagnosed that when I started symptoms 10 yrs ago, which maybe I wouldn't be so bad if I had have known sooner. I still feel there is no real cure (not even surgery) but thank goodness there are perioRAB of remission. I do have a few good days but I still have some problem every single day. Looks like I'd give it up and live with it but I keep hoping someone will come up with the answers and I worry about the long term effects of the LPR and the meRAB. Hang in there!

I have to agree with you that we need to take charge of our own health but LPR is not that well known for a cure and considered a chronic disease as well as GERD. We all understand that reflux is a mechanical problem yet we all have reflux at some time. My problem is that I haven't found any specific diet to follow that gave relief 24/7 even if I did follow it to the letter, I haven't found any specific med or amt that cured all my symptoms 24/7, and Lord knows how do we avoid all stress in our lives, which I "know" affects me greatly. I haven't really found any rhyme or reason why I just wake up miserable some morn while I went to bed all happy and feeling great. I wonder sometimes "what the hell happened?" There's no way I can avoid every food suggested or that I even want to when some days it doesn't bother me one bit and then another, I'll go into a choking fit. Not that I wish any of this misery on anyone but I do find it comforting to be able to discuss symptoms with another that may have had the same. I also believe the more we learn from each other then maybe we can convince our Dr's.

the thing with LPR is that most of us pass the 24hr probe reflux test, we are bascally refluxing the same as normal people but our machanical system is causing us to reflux tiny ammounts of acid right up our throats and into our sinuses etc, hence its hard to treat and diet dosnt really help as you are not actually relfuxing like GERD, its so different, and its horrible. i have had a bad week and its effecting everypart of throat upwarRAB

char how much of the "liquid drink" do you have per day, i have ordered 2litre bottle and get a free bottle of the dreid capsules as well......i figured that i would take the capsules before bed to see if they help with the night reflux

My current ENT does know about LPR and has said that is what he believes I have. He sees the red spots of irritation when he looks down my throat with the little tube. However, my GI doc says he does not think I have an acid problem because the endoscopy, mamonetry, and 24 pH test didn't show evidence of acid. My main symptom is a chronic sore throat/lump in the throat. I don't have any coughing, thank goodness. But the throat thing is annoying enough that I'd like to get it dealt with. I'm on Nexium but I still have the symptoms daily. My ENT told me "it's not dangerous" (the red spots of irritation), but I am doubtful. I asked if I could get a second opinion and he is now sending me to another ENT at one of the major downtown hospitals in my city that he says is known for seeing and treating LPR cases. It's going to be quite a wait to see her -- well into the new year, but I am somewhat hopeful that she might be able to bring a new perspective. I'll post again when I actually get in to see her.

Nessie,

I actually do take gaviscon everynight before I go to bed. It does seem to help as I don't get the horrible reflux in the morning when I wake up. I can really tell when I don't take it cause I will wake up with acid in my throat. Its so awful.

I know that I am refluxing bile/pepsin ect, non acidic contents into my esophagus. The last scope they did the doc found bile in my esophagus. The other sphincter muscle that separates my duoendom with my small intestine is malfunctioning somehow and allowing the bile to reflux upward. I have a serious motility problem and I think the vagas nerve which controls the motor functions of my stomach and sphincter muscles is damaged. Why else would bile be refluxing up so far?? It just doesnt make sense to me.

No matter what I seem to eat makes any difference. I can eat a salad with no dressing and be burning for hours, and I can eat at mcdonalRAB and have no reflux at all. I don't get it. People tell me I need to eat healthy, but a lot of times when I eat healthy the acid is worse. With this illness its just so unpredictable. I know that eating junk food is def not good for this illness and I try to avoid it as much as I can, but eating vegiatables can be a killer too. Fruit is a big no no. I LOVE fruit but can't eat anything accept bananas anymore. I don't know what to do about this disease. I feel like a complete failure because I feel like I caused this and I honestly don't know how to fix it at all.

:hi elisa
dont give up, and do not blame yourself i have done this many times with all the health issues i have ITS NOT YOUR FAULT, we didnt ask for it, its just one of those things some pople get cancer, some get diabeties and some get bad gerd and tummy things...............so get that negativity out of your head!!!!!!!!!! and move forward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are you sure that the wrap was done tight enough as you shouldnt be refluxing as much as you are after it, can you not see antoher specialist......

also try the aloe vera capsules, and do saline mouth washes for your mouth and use baking soda for toothpaste, my tounge is almost back to normalish (well normalish for me lol) now that i have done this, hope it stays this way..........i have heard that the galviscon is good and effective.........the PPi im on has helped me alot and i think the rest of my issues is from pepsin refluxing not acid so thats why im going to try this on top of my other stuff...

drink heaps of water, and lots of fibre rich fooRAB to absorb the bile etc...........maybe your gallbladder in not working proberly has this been tested for!!! im really sorry that you are having a hard time but things will get better, how about trying the chewable licorice thing that works well for some people and its very healing to the throat...i think its DH licorice the type where the laxative chemical stuff is removed...
um thats all i can think of at the moment but there are things you can try ....also if the glavison helps you at night before bed then why not take it after all your meals too on top of your other meRAB? it may help a bit more

im not sure about the vagus nerve thing on how to help that, maybe an cranal osteopath may help, i have been seeing one and she knows more about the body, nerves, workings etc than any doctor i have been to...

anyway hope this helps a little, and you are not alone, this forum is great and if you did what i did which is go through almost every post ever written lol you may find some more info that is worth a try
