The fountain is brown in color and I am reluctant to put acid on it because of the brown stain. I've tried CLR and Lime Away already!

When using a acid solution, this will not affect the color. It will only neutralize the efflouresces. After you clean this fountain, you might want to seal it with a masonry water sealer, let dry and then start to use. This may be an every year type thing. DO NOT use any Thompsons product. good luck. go to www.ugl.com/drylok/concretesealer

You can just try regular white vinegar as well. Less harsh for the environment than the chemicals, and far less toxic for the birds and the bees (who will be drinking out of your fountain). I've never seen it take color off of anything. Let a diluted solution soak in there for awhile, then use the soft side a sponge to wipe the fountain.
