A prequel to the "original" My Otome universe, staring Sifr. Rena is supposedly the original carrier of the Blue Sky Sapphire and Arika's mother. Her name is Rena Yumemiya.

Sifr is voiced by the same girl who did Nina Wong.

Just seen the first episode by Doremi. It was really good. The start is all goofy like but the ending battle is really kick a$$. Can't wait for episode 2! Go Rena!
 
This looks short and sweet and seeing as its a prequel It doesn't matter if I haven't seen the original series. Correct?

I'l grab it now for tomorrow afternoon. Or sunday morning. Whatever.
 
Judging from the episode I've seen I don't think it's necessary. There's plenty of pointers to the other series (My Hime, My Otome and My Otome Zwei), but it won't stop you from enjoying this series. According to ANN this is a three episode OVA. He, if you enjoy it you might as well check out the other series. They're easy to get through, hillarious and it contains women kicking ass while having some moderate fanservice.

This series does expect you to understand what an Otome is, there's little to no explanation about the background.
 
Episode 2 is out by doremi since last friday. I couldn't wait to get my hanRAB on it since the last episode of this OVA left the viewer with a cliffhanger of epic proportions. I was kind of disappointed though.

Rena doesn't get the Blue Sky Saphire untill the end of the show and there's hardly any finghting between otome's. Miyu was too easily defeated by M-9, who now seems to have absorbed Rena's awesome Crimson Jade powers. A show that consists of only 3 episodes should have more epic fights like in the first episode, but it focusses too much on explaining what we already guessed or even knew.

Ah well, in a few months we'll have the conclusion... I'm pretty sure there's going to be a major battle.

Anyway, I don't feel like watching another episode 'til the last one is released. I don't want to be left hanging for another few months for the next episode.

Srsly, at least Kara no Kyukai is better than this. >_
 
Holy sh1t, you too?! I don't understand it, either. I've probably watched the Hime/Otome series numerious times(I lost count >_>). But both series never made it to the top of my list either. And I do agree the se/prequels are highly entertaining, none of that teen age angst(Just Nina's crap lol), as far as I can tell.

Nah, Kara no Kyoukai is not even close to Mai Otome at all. I'm just saying it's better since it's released as movies in the theatres each month in Japan, there are about 6 episodes total, I think?
 
True that. Well if you liked Mai Otome as much as I did you're sure to be enjoying S.ifr as well. So far I think it's better than Zwei. Still it might be a good idea to hold off on it until the last episode is out. It's odd, this show got a lot of attention in Japan, but they're not making a new series out of it. It even has it's own talk-show thingy called "Otometic" hosted by voice actresses of Nina and Arika.
Rena's timeline is bound to be a source of info that should easily cover a new series.

I read somewhere they are making a new Mai HiME series with new characters.
 
And there you have it. Proof that I'm getting old. It's a thread created by you to which I myself replied. Oh well, it's not affecting my having fun in life. Yet.

However in this OVA, they look kinda familiar...

Have I seen those two somewhere before?

Alright final episode is out by Doremi. Awesome final episode. Rena rocks as expected and more. I still stand by the fact that this could have easily been 12+ or even 24+ episode. Given the vast amount of characters and background information still not uncovered. In this episode even more links are laid towarRAB the HiME universe.

Go watch it already!!

I thought Sifr looked a lot like Nina by the end of the show. Funny to see how befriended they are when taking the controversy between Arika and Nina into account.
 
Hmmm, I have a neutral view on this.

- This doesn't connect with the main story well. Where is Sifr in Otome?
- Why include Artai characters at all? They don't contribute to the story in any way/shape of form. They were only there to look cool?
- Oh yes, Rena pulled a super saiyajin at the end. I would've never known!
- I do love the fight scenes between android and Rena, but the whole thing got butchered into pieces.
- It took Rena half of an episode to take down an android, yet it only took her not even 5 minutes to take down 5 otomes? lolwut?

I did enjoy this short series, though. But I thought they'd change the pattern of their story already, ergh.
 
What do you mean where is Sifr? Sifr is Nina's mother and part of that whole "weaver" thing that can control the Harmonium. If you meant where is Sifr in the original show then yes they do have something to explain. All I can think of is that Sifr died in the attack where Rena was captured and Arika was put into that little basket.

The whole show was too short for what was going on. They could have easily fitted the story and characters in an entire season and make it work. Even the ending felt like there was more to come.
 
Oh right. I totally forgot about that part. I guess now everything makes sense.



I agree, Otome/Hime series are notorious for having way too many characters. A new season might've been too much, but maybe two more episodes would've made it work better?
