My dad gave me him from his tank 2 days ago, is it normal for him not to eat if he has been moved from tank to tank?

P.S. is it ok if my tank used to be a tank for goldfish (got a heater now)

Thanks...

don't worry, it's normal. just give him some time to settle in to his new environment. it could take up to a week for him to start eating. if you get concerned, you could always try putting some feeders in with him (if he's big enough). usually they'll give in after a little bit.

the tank is perfectly fine to use, it doesn't matter what used to be in it. so long as you gave it a good clean out if there were any medications in the water.

best of luck :)

Try cichlid food...if that doesn't work try freeze dried blood worms. Sometimes they act weird after being moved from tank to tank but Oscars a relatively greedy fish...if they won't eat they are probably sick. So try to find some medicine at the pet store for a disease called Ich....or ask the sales person for help.

i have 2 oscars and when i jt dosen't eat that isn't good the first time i had an oscar it died but now i have 2 if he is laying on the bottom of the tank there is no help but if he is swimming then he is shy and he eats after u leave if he is shy then when he is older and bigger he will eat all the time...........they can grow to18 inches you r in for some work

cichlid gold pellets work for my red oscars but umm urs is probly nervouse how bigs ur tank??? give him a few days adventully he'll get hungry

He's in a new place. Once he's comfortable, he'll start eating. He's probably uncomfortable and not feeling safe about the place he's in so give him some time. =]

One of my fish took four days before she started eating. Some fish can take up to a week. If he doesn't eat by the end of the week, try something else. If he has pellets, try flakes, and vice versa.

The fact that it used to hold goldfish doesn't have anything to do with him not eating.
