My Oscar fish has red eyes?

I got a little Lemon Oscar yesterday and his eyes are red. Do all od lemon Oscars have red eyes? And when I go up to the tank he go to the back and sits there behind a peace of drift wood. Why is he doing that?
Should I get him a friend?
 
the red eyes are just his eye colour like some people have blue,brown,green etcetc.
Getting him a tank mate would be a good idea, can I recommend getting him a bichir? I know someone with an oscar and a bichir and they're best buds hahaha =]
although I think they're seasonal fish?
