my one gripe with the wii

Graphics do not have to be perfect for me, but game play does. I think nintendo games and the wii games in general certainly have great game play. my only gripe is that there is not a fiber audio or coaxial audio out so that I could run it through my surround system (my TV, for some reason doesn't have this outbound either.. so there is no way for me to get true surround sound on the wii).

What about with the Nintendo component cables? RGB, and red/white composite?

I play my Wii in the bedroom and I don't have surround sound in there. The component looks great on my bedroom plasma though.

At least it has Dolby Pro Logic II (crap, emulated surround, but better than nothing). Wish it had optical though...hell, even the PS2 had optical.

well its fun none the less... at least audio comes via the wii-mote so it sounds cool in that respect at least...

despite this I am still having more fun with it then any other console, surround would just be icing on the cake. who knows.. maybe a 3rd party USB type device will come out for it.

i wonder if the dvd drive wiis will have something better than dolby pro logic II.

watching a dvd with that is crap compared to digital 5.1/dts

it's not going to make any difference if the games don't support some type of audio format with discrete channels. ProLogic is going to sound the same over analog or digital.
