My nightmare Advanced Motor Sports (AMS) experience

Scott,

$200.00 Damage estimate
$200.00 Motorcycle pick-up
$600.00 40 days storage at $15.00/day
$1,000.00 Total

That doesnt' seem "completely absurd in every possible dimension of reality," to me. A bit pricey perhaps, but not "completely absurd."

Let's break it down:

$200.00 for a damage estimate. Sounds about right. Consider that the industry norm is to waive the fee if you have the work done, so 20/20 probably wouldn't have had to pay for the estimate if he had opted to repair his bike. You don't really expect AMS to do damage estimates for free, do you?

$200.00 to pick the bike up at the garage. This seems a bit high to me, but I guess that depends on how far away the garage was from the dealership. If it took 2 guys 2+ hours, then $200.00 dollars is fair.

$600.00 for forty days storage. That breaks down to $15/day. If anything, that seems a bit lower than standard storage rates. Your hyperbole notwithstanding, it's certainly much lower than parking rates in mid-town Manhattan.

It's hard to fathom why you would bad-mouth AMS so badly; you aren't even a party to this incident and have no personal knowledge of the facts. My years as a lawyer have taught me that the truth often lies somewhere in the middle. To blindly side with 20/20 and trash AMS without any personal knowledge of this incident is irresponsible, and arguably libelous. If I were Jeff Nash and I read all that smack you posted, I would have told you not to bother coming back also.

Bottom line: Italian superbikes are expensive toys. Nobody ever claimed they weren't. Like they say, "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Just my opinion.

I have no problem with AMS. The one transaction I had with them was buying a rear stand for my 916. It came with a broken wheel, I called them and they sent me a new wheel ASAP--no questions asked. My only issue with this is how in the world they got the bike into that van with the steering locked. I have a hard enough time getting the bike into our mini van with the damn thing unlocked! There's really no easy place except for the handlebars to pull or push from. Granted, I'm sure it's a lot easier w/ two people, but with the steering cocked at a 45, I would have loved to have seen it. I wouldn't want anyone loading my bike that way.........

So 20/20ducati joins the list & his 1st post is this. He did the same thing on the Ducati.MS list by joining & bombing. Some on this list and the Ducati MS list are passing judgement on AMS.

I have no dog in this hunt ... but I find this very disturbing.

I think the thing to keep in mind here, for us outsiders, is that AMS is kind've a captive market down there. Here in SoCal we have 10 ducati dealers or some such and I'm sure it's the same elsewhere.

So, Toni, for those of us it's hard to understand these charges when our dealers would never charge us any such thing as "storage fees" or "pickup fee's" or any such.

My guess though is that you're used to getting compensated for everything you guys do, and probably your customers expect that. And I'm sure you're right that the poster got the same fees you were seeking in their insurance check.

It's kind of a common scam for guys to get a 7K check for a bike that's not even worth that and then put 3K into it and have the new pimp mobile. Out here dealers know that they'll never actually see an insurance check, but they may sell some of the parts involved at good margins.

i'm surprised no one has mentioned the apparent HUGE disparity in what AMS allegedly quoted the insurance company for the bike's value (OP said $12-13K) and what AMS offered the OP for a trade-in on that same bike ($1200 if i remember right).

if that is the case, AMS is undoubtedly ripping everyone involved off, end of story. that is more than an $11K difference.

btw, considering all the crap new people get.... figured i would say that i have lurked a bit for a while and just registered, admittedly because of this post. i've been around ducati boards enough though to not be a troll.
