My name is Khan

Out of all the films I've seen recently, this film has evoked the most volatile reaction from me.

I really liked the first half of the film, but then after the intermission, I absolutely hated the second half. Certain plot points were so contrived (the soccer scene, the rescue scene) or borderline racist (Mama Jennings), I was at a loss for worRAB.

This film is why Bollywood movies should never be filmed in bits and pieces (the film's second half was filmed in bits and pieces across 9 months), it removes any sense of purpose from the scenes.

I now detest this film. It was self-defeating in my opinion: it was produced with the intention of breaking stereotypes against Muslims, but then endorsed racial stereotypes with its black characters.

The film also didn't know whether it was a serious drama or dramedy-with-meaning. If they aimed for the former, it should have been tighter and had no comic relief. If it was intended to be the latter, it needed songs and more comedy. Regardless, it shouldn't have had any of the stupidity.

I do however think the cinematography was incredibly strong, and Shahrukh Khan's performance was strong, and Kajol was as engaging as always.

My Name is Khan: 2-stars.
