She is paying her tickets and is making arrangements to pay the other persons insurance for the damages. She makes 500 dollars a month, as she is disabled and on a fixed income. The insurance wants 600 up front and then monthly payments. They have threatened her with jail time if she does not do this. I wont have a free check to help her for another couple of weeks, will she go to jail?
We are not trying to get out of paying, we just need a little time to gather the 600 together.
Yes, the rep from the other persons insurance told her she has 2 choices, pay up or jail.
This is in Texas. Moms insurance is active again, but she isnt driving anymore.

She cannot go to jail for not purchasing car insurance. However, if she drives without it she risks having her car impounded, depending where she lives.

the insurance company is threatening her with jail? sounds like a scare tactic to me. i would not recommend her driving until she gets insurance. as far as them collecting it sounds like a civil matter. just send them what you can. and don't worry about her going to jail over this.

You cannot be jailed for not paying a bill. The insurance company is just 'puffing'.

In "some" States there is the potential for a jail sentence if they prosecute her for driving uninsured but that's not going to happen if she had just lapsed. The State reserves jail time for repeat offenders.
