my mazda xedos 6 auto slipps in first gear what could cause this?

when I start moving the car if I press a little harder on the eccelerater, the engine sounds noisey like you driving fast, for few seconds then the car jerks when it engages gear one. after that it runs very smoothly. what could be the problem
