ok this is soooo confusing for me so please help as much as you can. i'm am using the contraceptive pill and haven't had any problems so far but what i dont understand is
if the pill stops you ovulating, why do so many women get pregnant when they miss just one?
what are these "fake" periods, people have said they're NOT fake but it says on my pill packet that they are
and why do women on the pill get fake periods?
i mean what is the need in unnessacary blood?
AND if these periods are fake then we wouldnt miss them if we fell pregnant
or would we? how does this work? am i way off the mark?
help! lol

The pill that i used to take didn't stop ovulation but instead blocked the cervix with a thick mucous barrier to prevent pregnancy.
the fake pills are sugar pills that are taken when you are menstruating as there's no need to manipulate the hormones at that time.
The mini pill on the other hand is a 28 day hormaonal pill with no "fake pill"

The way the female reproductive system works is this: When you start your period, you have very low levels of progesterone and higher levels of estrogen. Slowly over the month, the amount of progesterone in your system builds up and that causes the endometrial lining to grow into something that can support the fertilization of an egg. It also helps to mature an egg for fertilization. At a certain point in your cycle, your body provides a surge of what is called Leutenizing hormone and that causes you to ovulate. If the egg were to be fertilized, it would start to produce a hormone called hCG, which would tell your ovaries to keep producing progesterone. If it's not fertilized, the ovary stops making progesterone and the process of the endometrial lining shedding to start over for the next month begins. That is what is known as the menstrual cycle.

When you take the pill, it tricks your body into not giving an LH surge to cause ovulation. If you miss a pill, your body can produce an LH surge - and then you ovulate. That is what causes some women to get pregnant on the pill. The reason you have a "fake" period is that the amount of progesterone and estrogen in the pill drops off at the right time to make you shed your endometrial lining. It's not truly a menstrual period since no ovulation takes place. You would still miss your period if you were pregnant on the pill because the fetus would still be producing hCG which would stimulate your ovaries to produce real progesterone even after your pill progesterone dropped off, so there would never truly be a drop significant enough to cause bleeding.
