This nation was founded by Christians and all of the laws, rules, provisions, amendments, trials, are all based off of Christianity. Since mainstream Christianity is intolerant to anything except heterosexuality, you will continually see the government drag their feet to changing these ideals. This may be the "free nation" and the "melting pot" but unfortunately down in the political core there is a lot of opposition to progress.
If it weren't for how christians spead how "evil" homosexuality is, then we would see a lot less bigotry and homophobia. Greensboro Baptist Church....
We aren't a race of people, but we are in the same legal plight that the African-Americans were in during the times of slavery, and even after it was abolished. We relate just legally, I'm not trying to compare us with them in any other way. But the point is, even though the laws are supposed to apply to everyone, everyone is subjective.
I'm gay and I know what you mean, and it pisses me off. Especially when people say "what's next? Pigs? Horses?" We're humans, we aren't animals, why can't we be treated just like other humans? AND BESIDES, haven't you ever heard when animals like penguins and monkeys and apes and stuff get married with each other and it's splattered all over the news, usually from a zoo or something? Why the hell is a chimpanzee couple more socially acceptable and more meaningful of a companionship that it should be recognized by the entire world before us? Why are we behind OTHER SPECIES?
