My Lexus won't start but will crank up when the key is turned? Please advise?

Hi, my car started right up this morning. But now at lunch time, it will crank but won't start up. I pressed the gas but still nothing. I have had some issues for the last week where it would take several turns of the key to get even a crank but once it did and I pushed on the gas it worked. Then other days - no issues what so ever. The black plastic around the key also broke this morning. Please let me know if you may have a solution.
When I turn the key, it does the cranking noise as if it is going to start. Then when I give it gas, nothing happens. It does not just click.
 
Might have a problem with your immobilizer chip on your key, try the spare key see if it works. If there is a problem, the engine will crank but will not start. If you have problems with cranking too than it can be ignition switch, battery, battery connections, starter motor or wiring.
 
Your either not getting any spark or fuel if the check engine is on have the codes checked.
 
Does the motor turn over,or does the starter just make noise,It might be your starter,not throwing the teeth out to grab the flywheel.
