my leveler is broken in 1996 mazda mpv?

My leveler in my1996 mazda mpv cant be fixed I was told..Is this true.I bought used springs but was told cant put them in because of the leveler.and there's a load clunking in front end when 4 wheel drive is engaged.Whats my problem there?
